In other news, Britain will shortly be hit by a long heatwave because I have finally finished that jumper! OMG it’s warm.
Well, I think I have. It needs a wash and I’m not 100% certain that it isn’t a bit too “skirty” for my liking. Here, have a look and tell me what you think:
I am now convinced that the magazine original had a huge bulldog clip attached at the back so that the gores laid flat.

@PipneyJane, I love that jumper and it does look very cosy. After the cold, wet, windy start to the year I can't wait for the heatwave

Thanks Ladies. The jumper is now being washed.
In other news, I started my 2022 Victory Garden today with the delivery of 15 garlic plug-plants from T&M, which I think cost £1.99. (Still on order are some strawberries and some cherry tomatoes, both bought at deep discount and both to be delivered in April. Oddly, the T&M email receipt doesn't show the discount prices.) While I quickly planted them out at lunchtime, I had a look at what remains in the raised beds. The over-wintered broad beans are in flower, so fingers crossed for a decent crop there, and we appear to have two carrots growing.
Also, I have a spend to declare. 5 coupons on a pair of these loafers from M&S. I'd have probably held off for longer but, if you have a Sparks card, there's a 20%-off-shoes voucher that expires tomorrow. £36 paid (not £45). Technically, they didn't cost me a penny, just coupons, because work gave us each a £50 gift voucher for Christmas.

That jumper is a lovely colour, Pip. I can understand your feelings about the hemline, but if worst comes to worst and you really can't stand it, you can always unravel a bit and then make a more conventional waistband!Sealed Pot Challenge no 035.

PipneyJane said:Gem-gem said:PipneyJane said:@QueenJess said:@Laura_Elsewhere said:@QueenJess, yes I saw that too - I think it means garments. I know when I read something else recently about only wearing 10 items of clothing for a week of outfits it didn't count undies, etc...
3 should be pretty easy as an adult (might be less easy as a growing child - or for that matter now I think about it, if you lose/gain weight, become pregnant or generally change your body shape in any way!) and although I’m a big environmental advocate, isn’t small changes usually best (although accepting we are probably past that point to make a difference now). I mean, if everyone did this, there would be closures and bankruptcy of clothing stores all over the place (which obviously leads to redundancies and other problems).
My thoughts exactly.
Humans can, collectively, make small changes which would add up to a big difference. We've already made a big mind-set change by becoming Fashion-on-the-Rationers. Ditto because we're active on MSE, we tend to have a different mindset to most of the population. If we have a collective motto it's "Don't Waste".
Fixing food waste and eliminating short car journeys are small changes an individual could make which would make a huge difference. According to WRAP, 20% of all UK food is wasted, which is the equivalent of 5% of UK territorial carbon emissions . Whereas, according to the Office of National Statistics, 40% of all car journeys are for distances of less than 2 miles, which could easily be walked or bicycled. Back when I lived in inner Melbourne, I used to have a mantra: if it took less than half an hour, walk it. More than that, cycle. If it took more than half an hour to cycle, then either use public transport or drive if there was no direct public transport route.
(Yes, a 2 mile walk today would probably take me about half an hour, e.g. the walk into our nearest market town While technically quicker if I took a bus, I'd probably spend all the travel time "saved" waiting for the damn bus to show up.)
- PipI drive the car when we travel to family and friends - long distance or go to quizzes out of area. (Though we do look out for train deals - to see if we can do it cheaper by train eg London to Taunton). Car is 9 years old this year, only done 42,000 miles.
Are you going to be affected if the London ULEZ is extended, @Gem-gem? We are, since both our cars have diesel engines. Mine is 13 years old, DH's 11.
- Pip
Luckily, I am not going to be affected by London ULEZ. Car is petrol.Tomorrow, place of work - visiting is 3 mikes away - so a nice walk tomorrow morning. But, It is supposed to rain at lunchtime, so may bus it back.I really like the chunky neck on your jumper. I have seen a poncho with that sort of neck.2025 Fashion on a ration 0/66 coupons
