weenancyinAmerica said:I tend to buy shoes in the children's department because you can get wider ones. And the larger sizes do fit adults very well. I especially buy my clogs and sandals in the children's section. Here the children's size 3 is the same as an adult size 5 and the children's size 6 fits an adult size 9. So you may need to have your feet checked for which size.
Good suggestion @weenancyinAmerica, especially as there is no VAT charged on children’s shoes here, while it is charged on adult shoes. (That’s 20% sales tax to you Americans.). I remember a colleague with UK size 3 feet gleefully telling me about her shoe purchases and not paying VAT on them.
Please note that in Britain the shoe sizing is constant i.e. a child’s size 4 is the same as an adult size 4, so if you wear an American Ladies size 7, you will need a British size 5.

Talking of buying in the children's dept.... I bought tights this morning - cotton-rich and a lovely bright rich red - I cut the legs off at the top and they fit my legs very nicely indeed as long stockings....
What size?

Here children graduate from child size to adult sizes, there's no overlap. (My six-year old friend is very excited that his next pair of shoes will be adult size 1). I wish it was possible, because I much prefer some of the children's styles.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.6

We can overlap sometimes. I’m normally a 6 in shoes but occasionally find a child’s 5 1/2 will fit and is cheaper.Wow, I didn’t get to a size 1 until I was about 10!✒️ Declutter 2025👗 Fashion on the Ration 2025 61/66 coupons (5 coupons silver boots)✒️Declutter 2024 🏅🏅🏅(DSis 🏅🏅)

Hi all, on the subject of layers, which as Laura has said work better to keep you warm, they work best if they are not skin tight but have a slight air layer between them. I worked with a lady who having a slim figure always wore clothes to display it and in the winter would wear a thermal vest, a thick t shirt and a jumper and was still cold until I mentioned she needed to wear a baggier jumper to trap some air in there. I have seen what I can only describe as giant hoodies, they have a name but it escapes me, to wear when watching tv etc. in the evening that seem to be getting good reports and I am thinking of investigating these for the winter. I am lucky however, as I am rarely cold but OH is often cold, even in this recent warm weather !! I shudder to think what will happen when it gets cold
Take care everyone8 -

@Liverpool_Anne I think the one you’re referring to is called an ‘Oodie’? My friend’s son had one, and after an accident in which he dislocated his shoulder, they cut it off at the hospital … he was devastated! Supposed to be very cosy.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.4

When the weather settles down to more comfortable levels, I will have to make the fluffy djellaba I bought the material for at the beginning of this year.
My OH's version was sold as a 'Jedi robe' (it's brown) but it's fantastically warm and cuddly - unfortunately the company no longer sells them, so after a bit of consideration, I realised it's the same pattern as a djellaba. Still need to actually make it, mind.
In other news, I promised my niece a Rainbow rag doll - 100% her choice - so 16 coupons later ....
On the other hand, I'm planning on doing an Aurora doll (as in the dawn) for her for Xmas so a ball off pink/blue/white was included for that.
