Oh no! Hope that the bruises go away quickly, and that you don't feel too still tomorrow when you wake up.
Some feather /down items can be washed and tumbled dry with a couple of tennis balls in the dryer. My mum had a padded feather/down jacket, which I successfully washed earlier in the year.Sealed Pot Challenge no 035.

Elisheba said:Oh also just to check - have been given a gift of socks for my birthday. As they are a gift I presume I wouldn't be using any of my ration points?
Also, do people count charity shops towards their ration? I'm pretty sure I remember reading about jumble sales in the war, but can't remember if coupons were needed at them.
Charity shop stuff is considered second hand (even if its brand new with tags)so is coupon free (unless you really want to challenge yourself and include them) as the idea is someone else spent their coupons to buy it, and then didn't need it any longer etc - sort of like retail hand me downs.
I think the exception would be if you're buying from 'new stock' that some charities have in, like some sell brand new items like hats, gloves, yarn etc
Hope that helpsWealth is not measured by currency7 -
Regarding wool bedding I would be interested in trying a wool pillow. No idea how they compare to feather - can anyone advise?I think wool duvets are probably a love / hate thing though. I have a 9 tog down and a 4 tog down duvet. A wool blanket is used in the summer. I find the combination of the wool blanket and the thinner duvet the best option for the majority of the year when it is too cold for just the blanket as I can use whatever combination is most appropriate for the temperature - either or both. The winter duvet (9 tog) normally come out for a couple of months (some winters it doesn't come out at all).I was given a practically new wool winter duvet by someone who had bought it and couldn't get on with it as they found it too heavy. I agree that it feels heavier than a down or feather duvet but I think it is a nice duvet. As wool duvets are not cheap and do feel a bit heavier if at all possible if you know anyone who has one it might be worth seeing if you could try sleeping under one to avoid buying something that you may not get on with.2024 Fashion on the Ration - 3.5/66.5 coupons remaining1 cardigan - 5 coupons13 prs ankle socks - 13 coupons5 prs leggings - 10 coupons4 prs dungarees - 24 coupons1 cord jacket - 11 couponstotal 63 coupons6

It also seems to create a stable temperature and as long as I keep it plumped up it's comfortable and supportive. I think you have to unzip the cover and empty the filling into a bucket or bag to launder it, and I've not tried that yet. The same facility means that you can remove filling if it's too thick.
So far I like feather pillows but prefer wool.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

I have a wool pillow - yes, I empty it into one of those large reusable shopping bags so I can launder the pillow-casing, and generally try to spread the wool balls out across the bed on a sunny day for a few hours, and then add a bit of lavender essential oil when I put them back into the washed, dried pillow-casing.
I love it - I only have it as Mr E tried it years back for his snoring, didn't like it as he likes silly flimsy little flat synthetic things, so I inherited it very happily. I would love a wool duvet too someday...2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

I've bought 400g of gorgeous wool from Ewe&Ply who have just re-opened over in Shrewsbury so I treated myself to a jaunt yesterday morning, ohhh, how lovely it is!
My lovely Cardigreen, knitted with 63 quids' worth of Very Famous Brand wool, shrank more than I expected on its second cold-wash (I'd washed the sample piece but only once...) and is also pilling great ropes of fibre under the arms. I am extremely Not Impressed, so I went and treated myself to enough to knit a replacement in good old Ewe&Ply's *reliable* Shropshire Ply DK in a lovely rich green called Lady's Mantle...
I have also bought some glorious cherry-red Texere Troon Tweed Aran-weight from someone de-stashing, and there's more than enough for a cardigan so I'm pondering what else...
I'm also clearing the decks this afternoon so that on Monday I can start a skirt made from yet more of the lovely Laura Ashley vintage needlecord I bought from Ange whose name in here is escaping me, argh...
The plan is to cut out and make a 3/4-circle skirt, mid-calf, and write down everything, every single thing, so that I can then go ahead and make one in the gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous herringbone tweed that I bought from Lindy Pickard of The Cloth Hall, for only £15/m and 60" wide... I do not want to mess that up, so the needlecord will be a prototype!
Lots and lots of sewing and knitting!
Note To Self: add in 400g of DK to coupon tally! And check whether the herringbone tweed was added, etc. Find that piece fo paper with it all jotted down and add it into signature here!!!

Bummer about the Cardigreen @Laura_Elsewhere.Ange is @thriftwizard. Hope she’s doing ok. She mentioned on the Grocery Challenge that she’d had some bad news.
