Hi all, the only time I have lived in a really hot place was when I was in Kuwait and it did get very hot
, thank goodness we had air con there, we also had a lot of sand storms that often made driving difficult, it was tricky at the best of times as the average driver seemed to think everyone else should just get out of their way, but in a sandstorm it was dire.
Take care everyone6 -

I've made a few cardis over the years, but I prefer my knitted ones. Let us know if yours is nice to wear.
Beginner Crochet Cardigan Crochet pattern by Little Golden Nook (lovecrafts.com)
A free pattern.
I was starting to think I should have gone a size up, and then remembered that tension is a thing in crochet (with loom knitting which I'm used to its not an issue0 so I think I've been hooking tight and should have used a hook size up... then because i think I was aware of it, I've noticed my tension is loosening (maybe a semi consciously subconsciously thing).... so the body is smaller than I'd ideally like, but I'm going to persevere with it, just for the pattern experience.... I'm not 100% on the colour now I've seen it worked up so it might end up as the house cardigan.Wealth is not measured by currency7 -
@Cherryfudge not got a particular style in mind yet, I have a few simple dresses that I could bravely use as a template. Just need some proper material scissors might have to ask elderly parents of what they have in their old store that could be handed down. I do have a shy sewing machine that hides in the wardrobe, so this could take some time.

I inherited loads of scissors when clearing my parents' house. One of those things when one wonders how many they actually needed! The kitchen ones are superb but the sewing ones had deteriorated and I suppose I ought to throw some in the metal recycling because they are beyond my sharpening skills and I have others that work well.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. Do you remember how we were discussing the top that looked like it could have been crocheted but was actually knitted, probably on a machine? Well, I think I've found a very close version of the pattern and it's free.

TwibbleDee said:@Laura_Elsewhere A friend of mine who moved further north once said that the people up where she was start melting at those temperatures. We generally hit 90 before noon! But you are right about buildings being designed for those temperatures. Even our mobile home and camper both have good enough insulation and air conditioning that the temperature is generally under 75F inside no matter what. We keep gas on hand for the generator for the camper in case the power goes out - saved us a lot of hassle during the massive freeze in Texas last year as well - we just moved to the camper and were toasty!
Right now, the wind is blowing enough that the building I'm in is creaking, and it's a rather solid building. We basically live in a blow dryer. With tumbleweeds. In the past 3 weeks, we've had hail (damaged the camper a bit, cars are fine), 2 inches of rain after practically none since August, and winds high enough to shift the camper off its blocks (luckily no damage there), and a haboob (ie, a wall of dirt - see here: http://www.okenergytoday.com/2022/06/west-texas-raked-by-massive-dust-storm/).
I'm talking a person about facilities management software for work and said something about wild weather - he wasn't expecting that list when I started explaining!
I didn't know there was a name for dust storms @TwibbleDee. I have vivid memories of one from 1983, when Central Australian desert sand ended up plastered on Mount Cook in New Zealand, well over 1,000 miles away. We were in the chemistry lab at school when it blew over, accessed via a glass encased staircase. Everything went pinky-orange then it got darker and darker until the sunlight was blotted out. Took about 15 minutes to pass through. It turned the snow on top of Mount Cook pink!
