#52 here I would like to swap from paying down mortgage to building up savings please. Same money goal. £650 saved in January.
The easiest way, given we're already most of the way through the challenge, would be to keep counting it as "paying down". Just subtract your savings total from your mortgage amount each time you submit an update.
  • Hi @julicorn a bit late to the party but I've updated my numbers for January, thanks.
Mortgage free as of March '25!
    £240,000 paid off in 4 years, 8 months and 18 days (July '20-Mar '25)
Mortgage paid off 19 years early.

    2025 MFW #40

    2025 Goals

Pay off mortgage of £55k for good! - £55k/£55k paid - mortgage free!!!
Keep emergency fund at £10k - £10k/£10k - goal met!
Lose 12 kgs - 3/12 kgs lost so far
    Try 1 new activity/experience as a family each month - 0/12 new activities/experiences tried
Decluttering - declutter 500 items from house and outbuildings - 136/500 items so far
  • Apologies for the very late update.
Mine is showing up on the spreadsheet but I think it has copied my July 23 has copied to Jan 24.
My mortgage fixed rate ends at the end of the month and I will be moving on to over double :(
I should hit my target balance midway through this year but my focus is wiggling a little more to savings rather than overpaying whilst savings interest can be higher than mortgage interest.

Total Debt May 21 £20,490.44  DEBT FREE DATE 29/7/22

    Mortgage balance May 21 £177,096.19. Now £143,070.41
Mortgage free date. At start of sole mortgage = July 2042

2024 SAVINGS FOCUS - get rid of the car finance. £12,706.25  PAID OFF
2025 Savings Focus - 33.3/33.3/33.3 split; savings for house renovations (bathrooms/garden/kitchen; whichever collapses first), save for a family holiday (probably our last one!) and paydown/offset the mortgage. Total pot = £4238.56

Good morning all and thank you all so much for your updates! I've just posted the updated spreadsheet, you can find it here.

I noticed what was causing some 'missing' updates - make sure when you submit your update that you select the sheet for the correct year :) There were a few October 2023 updates that came through as October 2022, so I've hopefully fixed those up now and the previous sheet should be up to date too. If there's any mistakes just shout and I'll get those fixed, either in the next few weeks or when the next update is due.
    Thanks again @julicorn well-done everyone

Thanks @julicorn - i think for now I will just lurk, there is still a chance I will use the savings to do a bulk overpayment closer to my remortgage date.  I'm on the 2024 mortgage free wannabes any way, and can meanwhile track there
