Dont see any Consumer Rights issue .Your builder quoted ?? but he is neither doing the work nor billing .Did the electrician give you a quote and what was the quote for ??0
-
Is the £2,400 over and above the £5,800? You mention they did quote so what was it they quoted to do?0
-
Thanks both, sorry I thought it came under the consumer rights heading.
The quote was verbal, via the builder, stating no more than £5,800. The £2,400 is in addition to the £5,800 so £8,200 in total.0 -

Is the £8.2k just the electrical work, or does it include the builder's work?
Who quoted the £5.8k?
Who is the contract with for the electrical work?0 -
Cost per hour is irrelevent as you got a quote The hourly rate would just make your eyes water anyway. Time spent on the jod is also irrelevent unless there was a time limit they exceeded.
Time to check their assoociation credentials was before you let them on the job not after and they dont actually need to be in one anyway so thats also irrelevent.
A quote would also take into account the supplies needed for the job so they will struggle to justify the extra £2400.
Tell them the £5800 is to much and offer them 4k, when they complain tell them they now know how it feels to be shafted.1 -
£8,200 is just for the electrical work. To be honest we trusted the builder, as he had worked with them before. We are not experts so trusted them all to get on with their job, but having seen how long they actually spent here, I can’t see how they can justify asking for a further £2,400.0

You will have to try and remember what was actually quoted for in the original 5,800 and ask them why the extras cost so much. I honestly think you are being ripped off.2

Did the trader with whom you have a contract for the the electrical work supply you with durable information (email, paperwork, text, etc) detailing your right to cancel the contract?
£8k sounds insane. I wouldn't advise you pay anything until answering the above question.

No nothing in writing, I now realise I was naive, too late, they do say you learn by your mistakes. I won’t be so stupid next time but I trusted the builder but realise it was stupid of me to trust any of them.
it’s a shame that we have to live in a world where you can’t put your trust in anyone.
Thank you all for your advice and thoughts.0
