Happy belated birthday Doris from Newport! (Would have been super freaky if I'd be right!)
Seems like your investments are doing really well. But yeah, the curse of the sale, you find the money and then two days later you're like "oh I shouldn't have used that money".3 -
Yep, I know that feeling 🤣! "Doris from Newport" sounds like something in readers' wives 😳!Mortgage start: £65,495 (March 2016)

I'd've gone for curry followed by cake 🎂 😄I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £204

I've just re-run my figures for the EF in view of my increased bills and the fact that I'd like to maintain a couple of monthly savings pots if I did find myself out of work again for a bit. The numbers looked pretty alarming to start with, but then when I deducted the c£300/month I'd receive in Jobseeker's Allowance and the c£100/month I could bring in from surveys if I applied myself, it seemed about right, so I'm sticking with £4800. Probably a worthwhile exercise in the end, as at least I can stop thinking about it now!Mortgage start: £65,495 (March 2016)

I doubt you would find yourself out of work if the employers are anything like here. However I do find £300 of job seekers alarmingly low. How do people survive on that?4

Quite! I've just gone back and checked my bank and it was £148.70 a fortnight 😮 It's definitely set at a rate to incentivise you to get back into work - they only pay it for 6 months too. I was "saved" last time by the fact my contract terms were for 3 months' notice, so I got a good chunk as pay in lieu, but now only on one month (plus not been there long enough to be entitled to any redundancy yet!) Certainly food for thought when planning....Mortgage start: £65,495 (March 2016)
