Is 95p that bad for a bag of kale? 🤷🏻‍♂️

Suspect my grocery bill would give most MFWers heart failure. Gives me heart failure...  :D

Mine is probably twice that price as it’s got an organic hike! Whatever people are saying is inflation definitely factors in items with less inflation that I am not buying… my food bill is going up far faster.

But @SouthCoast is the resident kale expert so if 95p is bad, then I concur 😆

I love kale but am a lone voice in our house. Suppose it's because it's bitter and has all the textural joy of chewing a rattan sofa  :D

QueenJess it’s definitely more than twice that, but as it’s not in season at the minute I can’t see exactly what. But if you’re buying fresh SC, that might be why it’s gone up - it’ll be having to be brought in at the moment as it’s the hungry gap. Not that I think that’s that much either…

    Love this 🤣!

In the interests of research, I have gone back through my receipts on the app (starting December 2020, I had no idea it had been going that long!), and these are the costs at 6-monthly intervals:

    April 21: 63p

    October 21: 63p

    April 22: 79p

    October 22: 79p

    April 23: 79p

    October 23: 69p*

    April 24: 79p

    October 24: 85p

    April 25: 95p

So it's up 50% in 4 years, but 10p of that is in the last 6 months, so is probably why it was a bit of a shock!

    * I thought this might have been an offer, but it was the same price all month 🤷‍♀️

BTW Vix, I hadn't actually considered seasonality (I guess that's first-world privilege, or we could be a bit more kind and say it's just because I'm not a gardener). I'm sure it's from the UK, though 🤔 Will check the bag when I get home and report back (currently at BF's)

In other news, I've just applied for a new credit card 😳!

It absolutely was not the plan, but my monthly Clearscore report came in and, to flatter my vanity about starting to be eligible for credit again after it fell off a cliff, I had a look at their pre-approved offers. Long story short, I've got a 12-month balance transfer with a zero fee - this is the kind of debt I don't mind carrying!

Bonus point #1: The eligibility checker said I would have a £5k limit, but when I clicked through to their website it was actually £8.5k

Bonus point #2: The minimum payments are only 1% of the balance

So, all being well, just over £8k should shortly be moving from the July card (2.5% minimum payments). The plan is 100% still to be debt-neutral by the end of the year, but this will massively improve my cashflow, as clearing the July card on time was going to take a lot of borrowing against other pots - £9k being considerably more than I can rustle up between now and then! It will push the debt-free date back by about 5 weeks, but once I'm fully neutral and it's earning interest in the bank, I will consider it job done anyway 👍😀

Nice one, Ed. That wasn't on my pre-approved list (ironic, after I banked with them for 11 years, but let's not forget they pulled my overdraft!), so this one is with NatWest 👍

    Right, back to kale chat....

So, last week's bag was indeed from the UK. This week's bag was from....Spain 🇪🇸

I would not have guessed that!
