OMG, new water bill 😱! I knew it would be going up, but £45/month for one person in a one-bed flat is outrageous! And that's on the assessed charge because I can't have a water meter, so no chance of improving it 🙁

This year's bill increases have now wiped out last year's pay rise, so much for starting to feel slightly more affluent on a monthly basis 🙄

We don't pay bc we don't have access to council systems, but that does sound a lot :(

😱 That is a total rip off! We are four people and pay £25 a month on a meter being very frugal with water (although this is before the hikes which I am still waiting for them to tell me how much it’ll be).

Hi @south_coast, seems high, we are paying £50 per month for 4 bed house, 3 people on a meter. Can you challenge the assessment?

    DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff.    Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

I think I'm going to ask them if they can change it to paying over 12 months instead of 10, as that would make it c£37.50, which would be much more palatable. It wasn't an option last time I looked into it, as they would only collect it over 12 months if you're on a meter (which genuinely makes no sense to me, as surely there's less admin for them in doing it for someone where they know the amount owing isn't going to fluctuate 🤷‍♀️?), but maybe they'll be a bit more flexible now. There's no point in me being flush (pun intended 🤣) in February and March and overpaying for the rest of the year because of it.

I don't think there's anything I can do to challenge it, GHF, as I'm already on the reduced rate because I've asked for a meter and can't have one. It's just still a lot of money!

It might be worth reapplying for a meter periodically as things could change (depending on why you can't have a meter). I was previously on a shared supply, and right at the start of it so they weren't keen to give me a meter as it would be inside the house and therefore not record leaks on the way up from the road. However, by the time all the other houses had been taken off the shared supply, it was no longer an issue!

Thanks for the thought, but I don't think anything will have changed. It's because we've got communal hot water, so the meter would only capture the incoming cold supply
