oooo - Cheery - you are in the City today! Hope the trip in went well, I'm very jealous of the posh train with tea!
My train in was late, being delayed due to issues on the line near the Tennis stop. The suits sitting in my area were fidgety & totally full of self-importance about being late - there was almost a stampede to get of the train when it arrived! I just don't understand why they don't do something useful while they are sitting there, they all have laptops & mobile phones as well as stacks of paperwork with them. Are there really commuters who let themselves be scheduled into in person meetings first thing in the morning? I was very close to growling at the suit who was sitting next to me by the window, when a good 20 mins from the station he decided he needed to pack up and get out of his seat to be the first one at the door to get off! On the tip of my tongue was something to the effect of I just had one just like you for breakfast - don't give me an excuse to have seconds. (I had in fact just written a terse reply to one like him at my office - LOL)
I'm now in the office (late but having already worked for an hour on the train), wisely having shut myself in a room with a lockable door & a strong cup of coffee. I'll have to be all sweetness and light shortly & the weather is not helping my mood.🤣🤣 Thank the heavens above this is the last day of the working week for me!!!4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! Oh dear RT!! Sounds liked in your office with coffee is the best place to be!
Fortunately the transport gods are benevolent today and I have (so far!) had an uneventful journey. I've also had chance to nip into a venue we've booked for an event in a few weeks to check room arrangements- all cheerful and more than satisfactory 😊
Now on a train heading rather counter-intuitively out of the city in the direction I just came from 😂 but apparently this was the quickest way to get there 😂4 -
Oh, and yes, Mr Cheery often fills the bath up with things to go in the loft 😂 The hatch is just above the bath, and you have to stand on the bath to open it, so it does make sense! 😂 But it wasn't very helpful when I wanted a shower at 7am and had to unpack the bath first 🙄😂6

Well, things have gotten considerably less calm since this morning... Our meeting was good, but then someone got hit by a train 😕 so most of the trains out of London in my direction were cancelled 😕
I stuck around the station for a while, decided to go for a cuppa somewhere else, changed my mind and headed back to the station, was let onto the platform for a single departure up north, but then refused access to the train 🙄 Went back to the cafe, which was packed, and have finally found a quiet spot in the British Library reading room (very glad I signed up for an access card last time this happened!)
Of course I don't have a laptop charger, and for some reason it didn't shut down properly yesterday so it's only at 35%. And I forgot to get a pencil so I can't WRITE anything 🙄
However. I am charging up my phone. I am not too hot (got quite overheated walking between places earlier) so I am going to sit here and not even LOOK at train departure boards for another hour. My laptop will last that long, my phone should be fully charged, and I should have cooled down a bit. I'll at least get SOME work done.
And then I'll check the departure boards and maybe head back to the station.
Thinking myself very fortunate that whatever palaver I have to deal with, I am not that person, or their family, or indeed the train staff 😕8 -
Oh Cheery! That's a very good idea to go to the BL reading room, but what a shame - and what a horrible reason
Great that you've got a phone charger with you, though, thats a very good thing. Hope Pretty late to get back, too. Take care of yourself.

Made it back to Euston. It's chaos. Security are opening and shutting gates to only let a few people in. It's boiling hot. I just missed a (very delayed) direct train.
But I have food and water, and I will get home eventually. Just need to be patient...

Oh Cheery, that’s pants. I hope you manage to get on something sooner rather than later. But in the meantime, take care of yourself.Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Well I finally made it onto a train, and am heading in the general direction of my house 😂 I will have to change trains though. Anyone want to take bets as to whether the train I am on will reach the changeover point before the final train leaves for my destination?? It's touch and go at the minute - but it's also 2 hours away and anything could happen in that time.
I'm still hopeful I'll make it home at some point tonight, but I suspect it won't be before Mr Cheery (who has a gig and will thus be out 'late'- but apparently not later than me, even though my meeting finished at 2.30 🙄😂)4 -
