Simple living in the country - back to basics

Evening all, thank you for your kind words 😊 I shall endeavour to be less grouchy today!
So. A bit of a long one today. A 3.5 hour meeting this morning, during which Mr Cheery tried to ring me several times - he'd taken my mum's birthday present to the Post Office to post, but I'd neglected to tell him what was in it, and of course they won't accept it if you don't tell them 🙄 So he and the post office man had to unwrap the parcel, and 5 or 6 individual presents, to ascertain that I wasn't sending dangerous goods in the post 🙄
I've warned my mum that I can't guarantee the state of the re-wrapping 😂😂 Fortunately she thinks it's rather amusing 😂
Also, a mystery/another stupid life admin issue to deal with 🙄 On Tuesday we had a card left in the porch, saying they'd tried to deliver a parcel (didn't try very hard - Mr Cheery was in!) and they'd taken it to our local post office, which they named. Post office insists they haven't received it. No tracking number on the card, neither of us ordered anything before then (my laptop was dispatched yesterday, and Mr Cheery's other parcel wasn't posted til Tuesday and is apparently still at the other end of the country)
So what is our mystery parcel?! I've emailed the Post Office to see how we go about retrieving it, but it may just remain a mystery...
Had an electricity bill, seems we used £76 worth in November (I sent a reading yesterday). Will check against last month's bill.
Happy Wheel total for November was a whopping £14 🙄Better than nothing, and certainly better than minus figures! Slight disappointment after October's £496 though 😂😂 Still, can't have everything.
So. Got the evening to myself. Got friends coming tomorrow who haven't been here before, so need to do a tidy of the house - it's not too bad, so I'll tackle that in the morning, and nip out to get some cake too.
This evening I need to make a good dent in my funding bid... won't get it all done tonight, but anything I can do won't have to be done over the weekend.
Probably back later with some more plans...8 -
Checked the Premium Bonds high value winners list, and I'm not on it, unsurprisingly 🙄
One person did buy £50 worth in 1977 though and has won £10k - that type of win always makes me smile! I do hope they claim it, I believe there are a lot of unclaimed prizes!7 -
would you believe I still have 2 from 1960 & they still haven't won. I actually only own 1.5 of them the other 0.5 is my sisters. Obviously neither of us has a lot of luck. Last time I checked I was getting 1.4%, which at the time was more than most of my bank accounts.

I think I had £3 from childhood 🤣 but the amount I've had as an adult has gone up and down a fair bit. At the moment, I'm pleased because I won £50 in the latest draw, go me
Cheery, be grouchy all you like, its your diary! Though you're also perfectly entitled to make new decisions about privacy too - again, it's your diary! Though I'm glad you told us about your mum's presents being re-wrapped in the Post Office, that's brilliant, no wonder your mum was amused2023: the year I get to buy a car4 -
Your present bags and the blinds look great!
I looked at blinds over black friday and decided they too expensive especially as I am renting so I have just got some old curtains out and going to put them up now I have a SDS drill - just need a curtain pole nowDON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Hehe I also have £11 worth of premium bonds. They were actually bought in 1957, before I was born, and must have been transferred into my name by a relative when I was small. They have won…nothing yet. 65 years and no win so far, but here’s hoping!🤞2

I can't find my premium bonds from when I was a baby😭. I think there were about £20 worth. My mum gave me them to keep about 25 years ago, and I remember checking them in the house I lived in until 2014 (no wins sadly) , but no idea what happened to them afterwards. I must ask my ex to look for them, because I definitely don't have them.Live the good life where you have been planted.
