I think you need to focus on one thing at a time, Cheery. Otherwise it's too easy to get overwhelmed. Sleep would be a great one to start with, as that will make everything else so much easier. Of course you can't magically make yourself sleep for 8 hours a night, life happens, but you can make sure you're in bed for 11.00pm every night (for example), and you can make sure you've got somewhere better than the sofa to decamp to if Mr Cheery is having a bad night (I seem to recall there's a sofa bed in your study?) The same goes with losing weight, you're not in control of what happens on the scales, but you're totally in control of what you eat and the amount you move. Nail one thing, then move on to the next. The outcomes will follow.

Cheery, you have achieved a lot this year s give yourself credit for that.

Thank you all xxx
You're all right, of course. SC, yes, we do have a sofa bed in the study! The sofa is actually pretty comfy and I usually sleep well on here - I'm just sharing it with the dog at the minute which is going less well... 😂 Will set up the study if Mr Cheery is still poorly tomorrow though, good idea.
Normally I'm BRILLIANT at sleeping 😂 I just often don't get to bed early enough. A good one to start with.13 -
I agree with what's been said - pick one thing. Make it small enough to be realistic and achievable. Once you feel that one thing has become a habit, pick another thing. And so on.
A very Happy New Year Cheery - fingers crossed it's a bit less dramatic than the last one 😆

Morning all, and happy new year! 😊😊
I actually slept well on the sofa, just didn't go to sleep til 2am in the end, as Mr Cheery was trying to stay up long enough to be properly tired - hard when you've done nothing all day.
Definitely going to be in bed before 11 tonight.
Chickens are up, dog and I have been for a nice hour-long walk, it's quite a nice day out there (although it's clouding over a bit now). Mr Cheery is still in bed, and I'm back on the sofa with the Sewing Bee 😁
Plans for the day - a gentle one!
* make decision about whether my family comes tomorrow. Unless Mr Cheery has a miraculous improvement by lunchtime, we'll say no
* bit of batch cooking - will get some Joe Wicks muffins in the oven, and do a cous cous salad for the fridge. Might also boil some eggs to leave in the fridge, and chop up a bit of veg to make stir fry etc easier while the muffins are cooking.
* do a load of washing and hang up
* blog post
I'd love to get some of the ceiling painted, but I'm tired, and so will prioritise a nap 😁10 -
You've had such a busy 2021 and have achieved so much in what was already a crazy year. I really like SC suggestion of focusing on actions rather than results (I am going to follow this too) This also reminds me of a book '@tomic habits' I've been meaning to read!
Hope Mr C is feeling better soon and you are still able to see family.June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!11 -
Hi Cath 😊 I've actually listened to the audio book of Atomic Habits - must revisit it as I clearly didn't immediately start following it 😂12

Happy New Year. You have achieved so much last year! No wonder you are exhausted! I agree with the focus on one thing advice. I think we are all too caught up in the whole New Year New Me thing. A New Me comes from changing little things over time rather than everything at once.
