What are the eBay alternatives online?

I have sold some of my own used items on eBay.

It worked fine with PayPal but it looks like it is no longer possible because of the new Managed Payments system.

I wonder what the eBay alternatives online are for a small private seller? I, mostly, sell my own used items to upgrade or to buy something new for myself?

Also, I think that it is a good thing to find a new home for an item rather than to bin it.

I am interested more in auctions than selling for fixed prices.

ebay has shifted away from small quantity individuals.
There are a number of groups on Facebook, if you're so inclined; both product/hobby focused groups and car-boot style ones.

I don’t think there is any real alternative for auctions online , most other sites tend to be fixed priced. As above you could look at Facebook marketplace, that is fixed priced though and can be very very slow but there are definitely buyers on there.

I really can’t think of anywhere else though, if you are having issues with managed payments perhaps someone on here can help?

Vinted isn't bad, though that's an app rather than a site I think

Quite the opposite - MP cuts out the middleman (Paypal) and the money you make from selling is paid direct into your bank account.

I must say that I was quite against the idea of managed payments, but I’m actually getting rather fond of it now. My payments are sent net of fees, so no more large bills I have to be ready for at end of the month. I’ve used managed payments to refund an overpayment , send partial refunds etc all very easily and without any fuss whatsoever.

I’m coming round to being a fan of MP.

And the payments come through much faster now. I've chosen daily payments and the money can be sent to my account in a matter of hours (depending on when the buyer paid) rather than the two days it took at the beginning.

I am looking for alternatives to eBay. eBay does not work for me anymore.
As above there isn’t an alternative to the ebay auction model, so it’s Facebook marketplace for general stuff and perhaps Etsy if you have anything vintage or antique (you will pay listing fees though) or one of the aps like Shpock (whichever you think is more popular in your area ). All of those though are fixed price and have nowhere near the amount of buyers that ebay has, so you will still sell if you have popular items but may have to wait a little longer and perhaps price a little lower.

I use Etsy, I do get some good prices for collectable vintage items but it can take months to sell something. For general run of the mill stuff I use Facebook marketplace , I spend a lot of time dealing with time wasters (probably more than I spend on serious buyers) and whilst I was doing very well at the beginning of the year it has completely died for me recently. I did use SHpock but for some reason when I declined to upgrade to the pay monthly version they stopped allowing me to respond to questions, so after about 15 months of successful selling I just deleted it.

A lot will depend on what you are selling though, so ask yourself where would you browse to buy the sort of things you are looking to sell? Whatever site comes to your mind as a buyer is where you should start your search for a new site.

  • I managed to sell loads on eBay over the last 3-4 months.

I posted a while ago asking for advice, I have a huge high heel collection and wanted to get maximum ££££, I tried Facebook, vented etc etc but got the most money and interest on eBay by miles

Sold my oldest/least worn louboutins for twice as much as I would have got elsewhere
