    To be brutally honest.

You know who did this and you will have to turn them in.

Otherwise you will have a very hard time proving it.

    Your choice.

Regarding the bill, send them a "prove it" letter.
Read this thread then do what it says, asking them to prove that you owe the money:
Hopefully you won't hear from them again after that, but if they do reply you'll at least know what grounds they have to think you're responsible.

  • Many many thanks for your precious reply . basically they sound un professional before their team said we accept tenancy agreement as proof now i send them tenancy agreement and they start denying it even one of team member said during call we don't accept tenancy agreement   it it look very simple it does not have any Stamp on it and also it does not have landlord phone number he further said any one can make tenancy agreement by simple typing . i offered to send independent witness statements and also a letter from my land lord where i actually lived but they are denying it . they are asking me to get a letter from the local council of disputed property to confirm in writing that my name was not included in the council tax of that disputed property to prove that i never resided at that property  . i called council they confirmed on the phone that my name has No link with the disputed property but they are not sure that they can issue such letter or not .
Is there any way i can push council to write a letter that my name is not included in disputed property ????

Did the Water company bill you before the case was passed to a Debt Collection Agency(DCA)?

However as they have passed the case to a DCA you are wasting your time in dealing with them about the matter; they are only interested in getting money and not the merits of the case. Intimidation is their Modus operandi.

Do as suggested in the post by QrizB and ensure that you don't have a black mark on your credit record.

The "prove it" letter thread says to send it to the DCA. Read the thread carefully then follow the instructions there.

  • Hi folks as per your advise i send water company the Prove it letter , the following is the reply they have sent

(( Just to point out we are not governed by the FCA, we are a utility company and do not report to them. At this stage I will not be following your request at the end of your email.))

(( Regarding the point you raised about the tenancy agreement as proof, we usually accept tenancy agreements from letting agents, private agreements are readily available and can be altered to suit the circumstances. Not that I am suggesting this of you, just explaining what the difference is.))

Can anyone explain what step to take now ????

    Thanks

Is there a reason whay you sent the letter to the water company, not to the debt collection agency (DCA)?
Did you also send it to the DCA, and if so what have they said in reply?
