Always worth checking but in t his case it has (nearly all) been done; just got to check disconnecting the sub-woofer and or looking at the settings.

She has now tried every combination of cable/Netflix on/off/sound bar on/off mounted on table or floor, no difference but has got down to "it only happens on output with very low bass notes" but still cannot determine if it is the sound bar or the TV that is vibrating.  Has gone into settings and turned off the sub-woofer, still does it!  Annoyingly (whilst the TV is old and well out of warranty), the sound bar is ...... just out of warranty!  She has another TV in another room but that requires major surgery to move either it or the sound bar.  Will report back with further progress as and when.  Not due to go there myself for a couple of weeks so cannot give ay first hand experience.

You said you put the sound bar on the floor but where is the subwoofer as that is what will be making the vibrations?

Where is the subwoofer located ?

There is no option to turn off the subwoofer according to the manufacturers manual - it wouldn't make sense to have that feature unless the soundbar already had in-built subs - but this one doesn't, it only has tweeters and therefore it is impossible to switch the subwoofer off from the settings.

The reason I asked this is because it is the sub-woofer that generates the low frequency sounds and they can often cause vibrations in nearby objects.

These very low bass notes come from the subwoofer and therefore the subwoofer is the source / cause of the vibrations.

It is either vibrating on something that it is in contact with or causing something nearby to resonate - either way the subwoofer location is key to finding out what is going on here.

Moving the soundbar and changing the settings will achieve nothing.

I am passing on info as I get it from daughter.  I will get her to sketch a plan similar to yours to locate the sub-woofer.    I was told she had turned off the sub-woofer but maybe she just unplugged it (or gave me the same info as you about not being able to turn it off and I've forgotten)!  This is a recent development so wherever the components were located has worked for over a year without the vibration.

What else in the room has moved?

Nothing else in the room has moved.  No need for a sketch as the sub-woofer is not installed in accordance with the manual, it is under the TV/sound bar on a shelf BUT it has always been there since she moved in 18 months ago.  I appreciate (as does daughter) continued assistance.
  • Is the tv / soundbar on a glass shelving unit ?

No, wooden shelf as part of a well constructed TV/HiFi unit and has been since it was first installed; nothing has changed about it and that is the weird thing, if it had happened from when it was first placed there, the problem would be (more) easily traced.

    Bingo, that's what I guessed!

My dad did the same with his subwoofer even after reading the instructions because it looked better in the cabinet than on the floor on its own.

I wouldn't take the fact it has been ok for 18 months to mean anything, things change environmentally after repeated exposure to low frequency sound. If something is repeatedly exposed to its resonant frequency it can quickly start to loosen and move things making it progressively worse.

Subs are always best on the floor sound wise as well, stops the thumping sounds transmitting through solid objects which distorts the sound quality.
