Hi Peeps,
Managed a frugal tea the other night from the bottom of the fridge.(meat was in stock) used up 4 not so big potatoes, some past their best carrots and an ok onion. Put it altogether and both DH and son who had bobbed over enjoyed it very much. Few more pennies saved. Must try harder. Eyeing up the rhubarb at the bottom of the garden and giving it some extra water till I'm ready to pick it. Fruit trees are more generous this year and keeping my eye on the cheeky birds to make sure there is enough to go around for all of us

Another long time Frugal Queen follower here- she says it as it is.8

Somebody told me today she saves her daily orange skin and dries is as it makes an effective free firelighter for her coal fire. Never knew that.In the past I,ve often often frozen mine and saved it for making extra chunky peel-packed marmalade when Seville oranges are in season.9

I have just spent some time listening to Frugal Queen and found it very interesting. There are a couple of statements that I intend to adopt to make more of a conscious effort.Anything is better than nothing-check back and see

Hi I've been watching Frugal Queen since I read a post by Jackie O. I think much of what she says makes good sense. I especially like her attitude towards snobbery. She doesn't care if people look down on her because she's frugal, let's the grey grow through, shops in discount supermarkets. That's one lesson that I've taken on board since watching. Not that I was a snob about such things myself but I have a friend who is. She won't eat anything that's grown in the garden or has a yellow sticker on it and neither will her family. Me? I'm not so daft.12

I will go and watch some frugal queen videos, always good to have another source of inspiration.
Had a frugal kitchen day earlier this week. Used up some bannanas, a satsuma and a lime that all looked a bit worse for wear and made a tropical tasting cake, adapted a bannana cake recipie I found online. Also cooked an apple pie and 2 baked potatoes at the same time, it all fitted in the top oven, so I was on for about an hour but better than doing it all separately. Also nice that my girl is laying so I'm getting an egg a day and I'm going to pick up 2 more quail tomorrow so that should up the number of eggs coming into the kitchen. Between what they lay and the occasional duck and goose eggs I buy from a farmer nearby, I'm hoping I won't have to buy eggs from the supermarket, not knowing the conditions the birds are kept in and how well or not they are cared for worries me. Also it's cheaper than the supermarket and less air miles.
Petrol prices are absolutely ridiculous, and annoyingly I travel about an hour a day for work so its an unavoidable cost but I am trying gto walk for shorter journeys on my days off. So far my energy bills haven't gone up dramatically, maybe by about £10 a month which I'm OK with. I considered solar panels but have decided against them for now as I'm not entirely sure if I will move house again and it feels like too big an expense if I'm not sure I'll stick around to see the bebenefit.
Could anyone who collects food from shops then puts it on olio tell me if they mind if its the same person collecting each week? Someone uploads lots every Sunday but I've already been to her twice, and I don't know if it's strange if I was to pick up from her every weekend.
I pulled an onion up from the ground last night and it was only a skinny thing, hopefully they'll fill out if I leave them a bit longer.

@Sweetlittledaydreams I collect from some of our local olio volunteers 3/4 times a week depending on what they are listing. As long as the food isn’t being wasted I’m sure they don’t care who is collecting.5

Re the lady who won't eat stuff grown in a garden
where on earth does she think food is grown for goodness sake. I used to know a lady who had some odd ideas. She would never use a library as she said "You don't know who borroed the book before you " She insisted that everything she had she bought brand new.
When I pointed out that when her and her OH went on holiday they stayed in hotels that didn't have brand new beds just for them They also went on lots of cruises yet the ships wern't brand new eitherNowt so queer as folk is there
She was horrifeid that I even went into a charity shop for a browse around for things
cw18 spot on a field is indeed a very large gardenGood job I don't have such soppy ideas, to me food is fuel for my body and if its at all edible I will eat it, but then I grew up in the 1940s with rationing and it was back then eat up or go hungry.
probably the only thing I would struggle with eating today is tripe as I loathed it as a child and the thought of it makes me still feel green at the gills over 70 years later
