I’ve never successfully put home grown peas in a meal because we always eat them all from the pod 😂 in fairness, you don’t get many at once when you only grow a few plants. I pretty much only grow them purely as a garden snack. Miss them this year, we are having building work done so haven’t grown anything (just fruit, which is in place already, but even our strawberry bed is dug up 😭).Part time working mum | Married in 2014 | DS born 2015 & DD born 2018

Good grief! Pears grown in Argentina and packed in Thailand! By the time that little pot arrives here how many miles will its contents have travelled? Its a wonder that they haven't shrivelled up with jet lag. I was trying to decide whether to buy some dwarf fruit trees that would grow in pots. I think that they are called column trees and are specially bred to be grown in small spaces. I think Broomsticks picture has just decided me. 🤔🍒🍐🍏🍎8

A couple of my colleagues at work won't eat food from a garden either as it's dirty. They both eat fruit for lunch at times and one of them will bring in a bag of apples for anyone else to eat from her Mum's garden whilst she eats a pre packaged Apple from a supermarket.

I’ve been reading these posts about ‘improper food’ and come to the conclusion that some people are very odd about what they’ll eat. The link between growing and eating food does appear to be broken. At the moment I am improperly growing lettuce, toms, chillies and strawberries in my garden.✒️ Declutter 2025👗 Fashion on the Ration 2025 61/66 coupons (5 coupons silver boots)✒️Declutter 2024 🏅🏅🏅(DSis 🏅🏅)

We really do sound like a 'Carry on film' don't we I sadly can no longer manage my garden but my Dd has grown some lovely strawberries. My next door neighbour often give me a bag of apples from her tree and I in return bake her a cake or two for the children.
Well done everyone for utilising your gardens though, carry on improperly9 -
Yes, strange the garden growing phobia as that,s one of the few places where you can actually exercise control over your growing environment. We,ve grown organically for over 40 years so am very happy to eat stuff from our "dirty" garden. If people saw some of the conditions in which commercial food was grown and processed, they might want to think again11

Does anyone else know someone who won't eat 'improper eggs'? This talk has reminded me of someone who will only eat chicken eggs, to the point he actually spat out a mouthful of cake when I said I'd used duck eggs in it. That's when I realised he will only eat hens eggs, so quail, goose and duck eggs are all 'improper' and it's not a taste thing because he's never tried them he just doesn't like the idea! We're a very fussy generation.
Didn't get any good yellow stick bargains last night and annoyingly the points didn't go onto my card, I must not have scanned my phone properly. But on the plus side, I shop at the cheapest supermarket and the quaility is good, and the same basket would probably have cost me double elsewhere. Going to prepare meals for the next few days today so I don't have to think or do too much between night shifts.
Anyway off to feed my improper birds and make improper scrambled eggs.10 -

As my son would say You can’t argue with stupid! I was virtually self sufficient with veg until recently but now limited by health problems. Still grow a little and agree taste and texture are so much nicer.9

We are definitely struggling. In comparison to how we used to manage, certainly. Can’t see really where we can cut down further, but we’ll find ways I’m sure. Very drastic changes to my work lunch - frugal lunches are a-go! Actually I’m enjoying them fine. Cereal instead of expensive bars, cheapest variety of fruit, no yoghurt, and either lettuce from the garden and a few salad bits eeked out with 25p packet rice, or pasta with 39p jar sauce. Doing what I can9
