That's what I was about to say MWT. In my case it's the opposite I put in a reading from the 23/9/21 as soon as I was able too but put in another reading on the 26/9/21 the difference between the readings £4.60/£7 is £1.43 between the two.

Someone please tell me what money is
  • Update: as instructed by the administrators I reached out to octopus and they have agreed to re credit my account with the double charge units, and that they will base my bills from the estimated avro bill meter reading going forward.

i hope this helps anybody faced with the same situation ie avro over estimated final bill. Good luck :)
  • The administrator of avro??? You mean? How do I contact them?? We are in a similar boat but our final bill has been calculated  over £1100 wrong ! We had only been in a new property in summer for 20 weeks (1 person) here, and octopus just say there is nothing they can do about it! I am at my wits end and don’t have and won’t pay figures plucked out the sky!

If the reading is way off, Octopus should still be able to raise a dispute to correct it. I know Avro are no longer trading so will possibly be done ‘in house’ but should be able to do something. What are your readings compared to what they have used?

As stated in my earlier post, if you have a smart meter you can ask Octopus to give you the actual readings on the relevant dates, so you can compare them against the AVRO estimated bill (apols if you have already done this).
Once you have this reading you can then advise Octopus and seek a solution, e.g. as per my experience, they took into account what I have overpaid AVRO and based their future billing from that reading, meaning I didn't pay twice. Good luck.
  • There seems to be a number of cases of wrong readings, my example here, readings way out. Good luck.

  • Is there anyone who can please help me. I have only paid utility bills last year as first time it was a responsibility for me. I am so stressed and Octopus won't help me.

I joined avro had a £45 direct debit based on their estimated calculation. But then now my final bill is £180. They told me to submit readings but if I didn't it's ok I will get the bill end of the year anyway. So I missed a few in the summer before they went bust.

My bill from octopus from 26th September to 4th December is approx £427?!! I am on a low income and never expected this. They keep saying it's based on estimate.

I told them my readings for them from 5th December to 7th Jan gave me a bill of £159.11. So, how can it be 427 for just 10 weeks where more than half the time no heating was even used (my gas bill was high this month as i used the heating more than I have all year).

Now they want the readings which I do not have. They said they emailed me when the company went bust but they did not. When I tried to submit my readings in September, i saw the website was down and googled it. That is how i knew they went bust. I have no communication from anyone at all. They said did I take photos of the readings but why would I do that? I was trying to enter them online like i normally do. And I didn't write them down. At the time they said everything will be fine, well the automated octopus line. And also uswitch when I called them told me the same just wait.

What do I do now? It makes no sense even from a step back, how would the average monthly bill be more than the 1 month I have used the most energy out of the whole year?

I have been waiting on the line to Avro admin for an hour and it just cut off. The lady from Octopus literally said 'yes an estimate bill sucks I know' and that's it. But I know I am over paying how is this ok :( I can't even afford it. What should I do?

From the sound of things it is likely that your final estimated meter reading on your Avro bill was lower than your actual use so that makes your fist bill from Octopus larger than it would otherwise be.
Take a look at both bills and make sure they are using the same reading for the closing reading on the Avro bill and the opening reading on the Octopus bill.
You will only be paying for the energy once, but instead of getting a bigger bill from Avro at a lower rate, you are getting it from Octopus at a higher rate because you don't have a meter reading at the actual end date for Avro so it was estimated.
If you have difficulty paying do contact Octopus again and they should be able to set you up with a payment plan.
If you want to post the meter readings used on the final Avro and opening Octopus bills, along with the previous Avro bill we may be able to make other suggestions or at least confirm everything has been billed 'correctly'.

Thankyou! I can see how this makes sense it's just I can't believe all this happened with no communication from them. They even said they had a technical issue sending reminders to post readings yet... Won't believe I did not get any onfo about avro going bust and what to do next until I contacted them myself. I have included what may help, if you need anything else please ask. I am grateful for anyone who can offer assistance because the bills themselves are so confusing. I have blocked out my address incase you are wondering what those boxes are.

The bills are made up from accross two periods for some reason but it covers the month before they went bust and then from when octopus started charging me.
