Objecting to disabled bay outside my house

Options
Bit long winded but here it is
i live on a narrow road where we can only park on one side.  Next to me on the left the occupier has a huge disabled bay big enough for a bus outside his house, this means we park on my side of the road.
on our stretch there’s 6 houses on my side 3 the other so parking is a nightmare.
Throw in the disabled bay is exclusively (courtesy bay) for my neighbour to the left and wow betide anyone that parks in or even near it and life can be hell.
Over the toad(slightly to the right of me) is another disabled badge holder , now I’ll add they always have a space as iis too much grief if they don’t .
I am so sick of it all so I asked permission from my landlord(council house) to have a drive … no problem.  My neighbour across the road informed me they also have permission but due to cost , don’t own the house, ruining garden or whatever the reason they’ve decided not to  get one.  Mine has been put in hold (landlord informed ) due to the weather , covid etc until the better weather in the new year.
I now receive a letter informing me a disabled bay is to be put next to the other directly outside my house taking up the entire length of my garden effectingly blocking me from ever having a drive.
There is already discontent in fact bullying in this street over parking this will make it a nightmare and will ensure I never have anywhere to park.
Now I know the you have no right to park outside your house etc etc but I feel I can no longer live here if this goes ahead and I’ve been here 23 years.
I can’t really find anything when I google about objecting against it
so any advice?

How many houses of the 9 have drives?  Can you present a scheme for the entire road that would be better, and have disabled bays where needed?
Had you only asked the landlords about a drive, or gone ahead and sought council permission?

But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,
Had the whole of their cash in his care.

  • 3 if the houses have drives , 1 my side on a corner( 1 car in drive other road other side of present bay)   and 2 on the other all be it illegal ones.
our houses are close together so the drives are front gardens there’s no spaces down the sides of the houses so not a huge stretch of road .  Basically there’s room for 6 vehicles if this goes ahead 4 and one house in the other end has 3 vehicles , most have 2.
There is a green across the road where half has been converted to parking for the road in front, one of my neighbours has asked if that could be converted to parking spaces but there’s been no reply and that was over a year ago.
I have been told today they’re aware of it but too busy and it involves lawyers etc.
unfortunately I’ve only so far sought permission from my landlord(local authority ). The lady dealing with it informed me that the last lady who had one made ended up paying for several permits due to Covid, the weather and problems with contractors getting tools so costing a fortune.
It was then decided to put on hold until things more stable and the weather better… probably shouldn’t in hindsight 😔 .
I do understand that disabled take priority(these aren’t wheelchair access)  but the bays are the size of 2 vehicles and in an already tight parking area .  The parking issues have escalated into threats and bickering, I’m usually on the end of them as I’m at the end where both disabled drivers are.  The disabled bay there is is already abused … occupier parking 2 cars half in , parking over the lines when he should be in the centre … doesn’t like anyone parking near “his” bay .  I actually haven’t a clue what scheme you could present… apparently the house with 3 vehicles is getting a drive which is great but it will only take one off the road the other 2 still there and that would leave one house to park in front of(if this bay goes ahead) as the house on the end parks further in as his car gets hit .
I suppose you could call me selfish but I just want to ho to work and come home without issue and obviously be able to park somewhere in the vecinety of where I live.

If wheelchair access isn't required one option may be for the size of the bay to be made smaller.

If the space on the road permits, then allowing a small access to reduce pressure on on-street parking has benefit both to you and others.

There will be a council local plan on planning policies and vehicle use.  A quick chat with the council planning team can be useful.
  • Tell me where you live and I will come and park in it(😄) and I am a wheelchair user.

If the bay does not have his house number on it - and I am pretty sure that I won’t. It is a disabled bay for anyone with a blue badge.

In all seriousness, the bay should be standard length for disabled bay, so can’t see neighbours problem with people parking close as long as they don’t over park the bays line, and if he can’t reverse park into ‘his’ bay then he shouldn’t be driving.

It’s the width of his double fronted house and at one point ge had a huge motor home parked in it but I couldn’t tell you the actual size . Now he parks his tiny car with the bumper on the back line.
Yes it’s a courtesy bay which actually stands empty most the day while he’s at work but nobody dares park in it

Why not respond and point out that you already have permission to go ahead with a dropped kerb (show proof of consent) for which the work is due to go ahead in the Spring.  Add that the house next door has a larger than normal disabled bay (attach a wide photo) so surely the answer is to make that abnormally large bay into two disabled bays whilst leaving room for your permitted dropped kerb.

Ask for a site visit and state you wish to meet the Council officer who does the site visit.

I have emailed already stating I’ve asked permission from my landlord for a drive and I do have the email for proof but as I’ve not got a permit in place for the dropped kerb I’m not sure they’ll take much notice…
Unfortunately although the bay next door is large if it was reduced in size abs the new one put next to it it would still take space in front of mine…

Did the neighbour opposite get permission for the dropped kerb?  Would they be able to turn out with a disabled bay there?
I sympathise as I live on a road with twice as many homes as parking spaces - but disabled get priority (6.6m for a single bay according to google) and after that it is a free for all.  It sounds as though your street would actually have the most parking if everyone sacrificed their gardens and there was no on street parking, but that would cost and need everyone on board.
