Vehicle stolen - Tracker company want £600 to trace it

I just found the number quoted by the OP does seem to be genuine for Tracker:

Thought I should post this to add to the post just now and correct the potentially mis-leading comment.3 -
I wouldn't be going to the location itself by myself, but seeing if the police would go.0

Forget about paying to get the tracking location, just inform the Police, the tracking company will be under an obligation to supply them with the information if they are aware of it's location.1

Hi everyone, thanks for your comments.
The vehicle is a Jaguar and I got the number from the Jaguar dealer directly, so don't doubt their credibility.
They won't give me the location, but will lease with the police to recover it. Obviously I don't know how seriously the police will take this information and how responsive they are to new locations, but I can only hope they do their best.
I'll update the thread with how things pan-out.

Yeah - but have you told your insurer?
They'll likely be more interested than the police...3 -

Is the car insured? Could be a SORNed classic or simply not insured through timing error etc.If insured, just phone them!

That assumes the OP has called them on the listed telephone number... if its all been inbound calls then its easy to spoof telephone numbers/CLI. This is a key part of the trick used by bank fraudsters because your phone shows its HSBC/Natwest calling as they've spoofed the CLIGrumpy_chap said:I just found the number quoted by the OP does seem to be genuine for Tracker:

Looking at their installation costs and annual subscription neither of which you seem to have paid (I assume it was included in the price of the car for a set period or just the installation) I think it looks like an OK deal.
I assume your excess will probably be about £500 alone and then you would be haggling on the settlement value, I think the £600 is not too bad. (Assuming you get the car back and in one piece)0 -
But as mentioned there really is no need to pay anything considering the police would be able to get that information for free.Flight3287462 said:Looking at their installation costs and annual subscription neither of which you seem to have paid (I assume it was included in the price of the car for a set period or just the installation) I think it looks like an OK deal.

What if they just gave the police the code and didn't boost the signal? The OP would be no better off with the recovery than they are now.neilmcl said:
