So I  provided my readings, got a bill the 4 days later I now also have 2 additional charges showing as "not invoiced" of £5.97 and £5.32. No detail what they are for. Anyone able to shed any light on what these could be for
    Hi,
sounds like you're on dual fuel.
Have a look at your bill, did your daily standing charges cover the period from when BG took over, were there different dates for gas and electricity?
No, electricity only, I have standing charge of 25.547p per day=£7.40 and on the next line "Supplier of last resort standing charge 10.95"

It's likely the daily standing charges covering a period that they've not yet been able to bill.  There's no such thing as a "SoLR Standing Charge".  Are there any dates attached to either of the standing charges?  Were you PFP or another failed supplier?
  • I have been moved to British Gas from Peoples Energy and just received the first Bill. I have got 2 extra charges labeled "Supplier of Last Resort transfer period standard charge". The values were £11.84 and £11.28. BG seem to have been charging me a daily charge as soon as they were appointed SoLR and before they actually provided the energy, doesn't seem right to me.

It is perfectly legal and allowed for in the 2016 SoLR regulations. The failed supplier lost its Supply Licence on the day that the SoLR was appointed. The alternative to the SoLR procedure is that power to your property is turned off pending the SoLR or ANOther formally taking over your supply. EDF will be paying its wholesalers for the energy supplied to you from its SoLR appointment date.

This is explained on the British Gas People's Energy FAQs.

    https://www.britishgas.co.uk/solr#3

How is the Standing Charge applied from when British Gas was appointed to be my energy supplier?

We were appointed as your supplier by Ofgem on a specific date - however in order to get your account set up, this has/will take a few weeks, so your energy supply start date is different to your appointment date.

Your standing charge begins when you are appointed as our customer, so we will therefore retrospectively add this charge from the date you were appointed to us by Ofgem. You will see this charge appear on your first bill if sent after the 10th November. If you have already received a bill then the charge will appear on your subsequent bill. This retrospective charge will only appear once.

British Gas became your supplier on the day they were appointed by Ofgem so Standing Charges apply from that date. You won't pay twice, People's Energy will only charge upto that date.  BG will also charge for energy used from that date once PE have sorted final bills and the handover reading is agreed.

  • If it helps, I asked a very similar question https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6319443/solr-transfer-standing-charge#latest  a short while ago.

I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

I just got my bill from British Gas and they are charging me as handy1964 says the 'Supplier of Last Resort transfer period Standing Charge for 24 days' the charge is in my case £5.69 for gas and £5.07 for electricity, so over £10 and they say 'standing charge' so does it mean they are going to continue charging that on every bill? because that will add over £40 to my annual bill... I am on the phone with British Gas customer services and they say there is a 49 minutes wait...

The standing charge gets charged every day. It's roughly 25p/day, £90/yr per fuel, and will be shown on your tariff.

Already covered on the British Gas SoLR FAQ page, and earlier on in this very thread.  Hope you enjoyed the hold music  ;)
