Zog Energy has gone into administration. What to do?
My gas supplier was Zog Energy until yesterday, I received and email from EDF Energy to inform me that Zog Energy has gone bust and Ofgem has moved its customers to EDF and I am one of them. The email further says that I have been placed on EDF's Welcome Standard tariff and I should expect to receive further information from them
Can someone please advise me what my options are?
Can EDF force me from switching away? and Is it worth looking at price comparison sites to find a cheaper supplier - I have low energy usage and would like to pay variable DD based on actual consumption rather than average amount that many supplier charge.
Many thanks

I don't understand " rather than average amount that many supplier charge". At the end of the day you only pay for what you useNever pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill1 -
If you attempt a switch now, it will be blocked as there will be an ongoing transfer of accounts from Zog to EDF. EDF is placing ex Zog customers on its Ofgem Capped tariff. You will find nothing cheaper. That is not to say that your energy costs will not increase. My unit price has risen from 3.19p/kWh to c.4.2p/kWh. If you look at the market, you will find that fixed tariffs have become very expensive. My advice: do nothing, and stay with EDF for the time being.0

1. You really have no choice other than to switch to EDF on their Welcome tariff which will at the OFGEM capped rates. IF you try to switch elsewhere a) it may fail AND/OR b) the other utility companies will only offer you much more expensive fixed deals if they are even prepared to take your supply on.
2. As far as I can see EDF will allow you to pay By variable DD for quantity used but its still early days for the switch over0 -
You need to wait until the new account has been setup to avoid problems .Then move if you can find cheaper .Likewise no idea what this average amount is never heard of it . My DD are usage PA divided by 12 .1

At the end of the day you only pay for what you useI don't want to wait for many months for the supplier to realise that they have been over-changing me (even though I send monthly meter readings).Prior to Zog I was with Shell energy (First Utility) and they always charged me exact amount based on the readings. I am sure that operationally its not difficult to implement for any supplier.

EDF will let you pay on receipt of a bill but it will cost you more than paying by a monthly DD.1

I was told by First Utility that its called "Variable Direct debit" and it changes every months because it calculated based on actual meter readings

Here estimate is calculated as per supplier's rules. Some do it based on last 3/6 months usage (if meter readings are provided) and some just use national average

I will stick to EDF until things are more clear.Do you have any idea when EDF's tariff is applied from - When Zog went bust (i.e 4th Dec) or whatever day my switch to EDF is completed? PS I have already submitted Novembers meter reading Zog around 26th November

EDF will apply its tariff from the day that it was appointed as the SoLR. Zog is no longer trading and its Supply Licence has been revoked.0
