Hello Julicorn and everyone else!
Can I join the thread please? I'm late to the party but just had a re-mortgage approved and keen to get rid of it ASAP. Haven't used the forum for a while and we haven't a mortgage for a years but have taken this one out to convert a barn attached to our house for use as a holiday let (we are by the seaside). The mortgage amount is 300k fixed for 5 years at 1.64%. The full term is until I am 70 in 17 years time. I can pay off 10% per year anyway and am aiming at having the whole amount to repay when the fixed rate lapses (as I expect that interest rates will be higher by then).
Obviously when it's finished, estimated at May of this year, the holiday let income can go towards clearing the debt and both my husband and I work so we are will be squirrelling away as much money as possible. He's in between contracts right now but shouldn't have too many problems finding something new and he's a higher earner (I'm just an NHS minion).
Only major foreseeable hiccups to our plans is the need to put a child through Uni in a couple of years.
I think my target for the year will be £15,000 which is high but doable with determination and would be 5% of the total.
Thanks!Trying to keep in budget.

Happy New Year! It’s great fo see a huge amount of enthusiasm and activity on this thread. We’ve paid our usual £250 OP for January, albeit a stretch this month. I’d like to locate more than this during some 2022 months but it’s a juggling act of OPing with other money pots. We’ll see what awaits us in 2022.
Thanks Julicorn
