It looks like 5-700 would get me an OLED TV, say LG for example. Would this plus Internet basically solve for BBC and Netflix? The are plug in boxes that will make any tv a 'smart tv' like the Amazon Fire Stick0 -
Don't know if this will help, but I had a similar problem when I moved in. Wires everywhere, what looked like a 100 year old aerial in the loft, so I could only get a few snowy channels. I got a digital aerial from tool station and a length of coax, and used a free app on my phone that tells you which way to point the aerial. I now have perfect reception (the old aerial was pointing in totally wrong direction).Could you not use the existing cabling to pull coax through and connect it all to an aerial in the loft? I don't see much point in freeview tv, sky boxes etc unless you really want the extra channels. If you are in a reception blackspot then it could explain the previous owners attempts with dishes and signal amplifiers? But perhaps start from a base level and see if that works0

Amusing how technology changes. I moved into a house that was completely refurbished about 2009. Newly plastered walls, new ceilings, plumbing, electrics, the lot. Lounge and 3 bedrooms each had wall mountings for TVs, with cabling - satellite, power, sometimes SCART - all imbedded into the wall. Six output splitter-amplifier in the attic. I guess the previous owner had thought it was future-proof.
First thing we did on moving in was to chop off all the cables and plaster over the holes. Anybody who wants a screen in the bedroom nowadays would use a tablet, and who wants SCART?
Shame they did not cable the house with Cat6 Ethernet cable instead!1 -

Neither are allowed in our house! My wife flat out refuses to have a TV in our room, and strongly frowns on using devices in bed (devices with screens!).
She is of course 100% right when it comes to a good sleeping environment and good sleep habits. I did have a TV in my room when I lived with my folks, but not since (said TV is in our lpunge now eith Chrome cast and BBC I player!)
Funny what you say about cable, before this house, so about 6 years ago, we found a nice house and the bloke had put speaker, hdmi and cat 6 everywhere, and had a little patch cabinet! Having been a sys admin sbout 10 years ago I was well impressed, others just looked bemused when he explained it all!
