The Labgear box has a black wire going into the "UHF" socket. I would expect an aerial to be on the other end of that cable. But if someone has removed the aerial, then the box won't be doing anything useful any more.If all else fails, call in a local aerial installer, and see if they can either fit an aerial or get the satellite dish up and running. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.1 -
Cheers. Another option if we don't go for the new telly route. Thanks.0

Ha ha, nope, I don't even watch footy!
As I said earlier, I had started looking anyway, but was probably going to wait till Jan. This has just spurred it on.
In my defence, I think I paid about 300 quid for this 32" Sony about 11 years ago. It has glue, yep, I don't know how either, on the screen, and my son's scratched it up a bit too!
Nothing super huge, looks like a 48 will fit in the alcove just right- £200 MyJohnLewis voucher code swung it!

Looks like the previous residents took the coax plugs so no surprise if they took the aerial too. If you are in a decent signal area a loft aerial may work for you, avoids the need to go on the roof and is much cheaper than a professional instal. I have this one https://www.toolstation.com/digital-tv-aerial/p49070 (2 actually but that is another story) for £14 plus a few connecting parts possibly I would think it is worth a punt.1

I'd reckon it's a decent signal area, London/Essex borders in a town. Well, the new TV is ordered, so yeah that will solve one problem!
For the old TV I might just use our Chrome cast as the TV won't be near anywhere useful for an aerial sadly.
Oh and they didn't take the coax connection from the kitchen, I nabbed it to try in the lounge, but obviously without an aerial I wasn't successful!0 -
The black coax cable going to UHF on that Labgear box, have you tried tracing it? Does it go 'outside', or just come to a dead end inside?Anyhoo, mum-in-law is using a *thingy* box for her TV as it's not near an aerial socket, so it's supplied by the interweb (via Powerline adaptors). This - as far as I know - not only gives her all the usual terrestrial channels, but stop/pause/record/catchup too.* I'll find out what box it is.
