I've really chuffed - today I went to spend my Xmas vouchers (M&S) - couldn't see anything I liked there so bought a DAB radio instead!!! No fashion victim me - but I was swithering over buying a couple of things in New Look but decided to look around some other shops first - got similar items in Benneton and H&M sales for less and far far better quality.
On the whole though I can't actually stand going round the shops ( I get so tired) and I just buy clothes in Sainsbury's or Asda when I'm there or else La Redoute when I've got a good code
My local oxfam shop used to have a lot of real good names in it ( like Jasper Conran etc) for ridiculously cheap prices but there's now a big fashion store further away that I think they send the good stuff to.
I sometime rummage in TK MAXX when I'm in the mood very good for sports wear and goretex winter/hiking gear that I like!Just call me Nodwah the thread killer0 -

If it werent for car boot sales, I dont think I would have any clothes!
What an interesting thread....I've cut down on clothes spending this year, and no longer use a credit card so if I haven't got the cash then I don't buy it and I hate paying full-price for anything:D
I buy from New Look, Primark, M&S, Asda and Matalan mainly but pick up quite a lot of clothes from boot sales (I got lots of summer clothes this weekend).
Charity shops can be expensive but if it's a quality label, then worth spending £4 or £5 on a top for example. I'm off for a CS browse tomorrow as I have a few days off work. Will also have a sort out of my wardrobe, things are getting a bit rumpled in there.
For work I mostly wear black trousers summer and winter, I have to wear practical clothing so skirts and suits are no good for me. I have a selection of blouses/jumpers/tops which I mix and match. There are some women who look so stylish at work but I never seem to, I just don't have very good dress sense
Out of work I live in jeans, I have about 6 pairs, plus tshirts/jumpers/tops. I don't go out much but wear smart jeans and a dressy top when I do. I'd love a Gok Wan type make-over, get some advice about what to wear as I'd love to be more sophisticated. I'm 48 and size 18, so need clothes that flatter and are suitable for my age but when I try different clothes on they generally look terrible! I find cheaper clothes just aren't cut very well for larger women so maybe I need to buy some quality pieces and accessorise with cheaper items from Primark. Being tall and long bodied is a pain too as tops are often just too short. If I buy good quality clothes at the boot sale they do fit better so will keep on rummaging :j0 -

I hate clothes shopping with a passion! I find it very stressful - especially when DH is with me pressuring me to buy myself something. I particularly hate TKMax, which to me is just like rummaging in a jumble sale!0 -

just stumbled on here,
Been struggling to look half decent on my pension and my usual 'charity shop' bargains and still feeling scruffy so.....i booked time [free] with the personal shopper in debenhams.:money:
Result....i was told i was long waisted [thats why t shirts always shortdoh] and was a modern classic type with an eccentric twist...like that! Figure type to think of straight with a bust, have to say that was the best morning i have spent in a long time.
Now have had a good clear out of the stuff that i felt an old frump in and next lot of 'charity shops'will be getting them back with a good idea now of what really suits/makes me feel good.
hope you find this useful.Saving for another hound :j

Re-reading this thread has made me think again about my wardrobe.
My most useful items so far have been
2 black suits
several fine v neck jumpers
very long linen skirts for summer
my Jackpot T shirts - absolutely perfect and crease free too
Clark's pumps in red and black
I have thrown a lot of stuff out recently but perhaps I need to have another look through. Just another comment in favour of charity shops though - today I bought a Warehouse dress, new with tags on, that should have been £70. I paid £12 and my daughter has gone to her bf's May Ball in it. I also got a pair of Moda in Pelle killer heels that looked new for £7. I'll probably only wear them a few times for going out so it's definitely worth it.0 -
Hi all, just read thru all 7 pages, and i don't feel to bad now, about the clothes i have, i tend to keep the same holiday/summer things for example= i have 5 summer skirts, 3 pairs of cropped jeans, i have recently bought 2 summer dresses from Asda, i always buy new vest tops for summer, because by the time summers over i recycle them into tops to go with my pj bottoms, i also have 1 pair of M&S smart black trousers (charity shop £3) 1 pair cropped black pants from (asda, about 6yrs ago;)) 1 black dress that i got in the sale at asda for £4, 3pairs long jeans, 5 tops, 3 blousey type tops, 3 going out tops, maybe 8 pairs of shoes (but i live in birkenstocks:rotfl:) 2 hoodie track-suit tops, 3 descent bras (big busted:o) 20 pair nickers, 1 leather jacket, 1 winter jacket, PHEW.... thats not much really is it?? as i said i have had the same summers skirts & bits like that for 5 or so years now, when summers over jus vacuum pack them all up and put away for next year.:D.
- whoops!! sealed pot opened!!! for holiday stuff, £360, an i BLEW it:D

After watching Gok Wan every week on Gok's Fashion Fix, I've realised that nothing in my wardrobe goes together although there's loads of stuff.
I'd like to buy a selection of items that all go together, I'm gonna sell everything in the wardrobe I have so far on eBay to raise the cash.
Stuff I have at the moment tends to go in colours, for example, a blue, skirt, blue, top and blue shoes all matching but coordinate with anything else and look ridiculous when worn altogether like a giant Marje Simpson Hair Do !!
Has anyone out there created a capsule wardrobe and if so what does it look like?
Maybe people could post pics so that the rest of us hopeless shoppers can understand what we should be looking for.
My idea is to go through websites like Next or Debehams to get ideas.
What do others think ???
I need a lie down :eek:0 -

So, you have a bunch of clothes that can be coordinated or uncordinated. Unless I am missing something, they can't be anything else, there is no third option.
After watching Gok you discover they are either stupid or look like Marg Simpson Hair Do.
What did you think they looked like the day before you watched GOK???????
How long have you been walking round looking stupid or like Marg Simpson's Hair Do?
I think GOK gets paid by the clothes industry to persuade women to buy more clothes, and you have fallen for it. He got a good result with you, not only are you going to buy more clothes, you are going to replace your whole wardrobe just because he has persuaded you that you look stupid or like Marg Simpsons hair Do!
How many times has he seen you?
Save yourself some time and effort and keep the clothes you've got. They were chosen by you and will be very nice.
If you listen to him you will be replacing your wardrobe after every series.
I'll bet you a years wages he's back in the next series persuading you to throw out the clothes he persuaded you to buy in the last series.!0
