Thanks for the vote of confidence for F2S GreenB.
I have had my connection with F2S for around a week now, but I'm not 100% happy with it as yet. I have 2MB connection, but have yet to see a greater speed than around 90kbps. Also the connection seems quite unstable, and seems to have dropped quite often in the last few days.0 -
:money: Well I am very suprised by this. I am on the f2s 2Mbs service with te 2Gb cap and I am absolutely thrilled with it. I do file sharing, scheduled updates and normal downloading (using a download manager) during hte night when there is no usage cap. their serviec is phenomenal. I am not the only person who is happy. My boss and another colleague at work also use them and we are all VERY VERY happy.

Hi feival,
Sounds as though you are getting a better deal than me!
What kind of speeds are you getting with file sharing?0 -

Have you checked the status of your local exchange?. Some BT Exchanges are running at equal to or above their design capacity, and where the status is showing red or amber then Broadband customer can expect a slow service. You can search for the status of your exchange Using Samknows if it shows amber or red then you have an explanation for the issue.
Most of the time the problem is with BT, either at the exchange end or a fault on your line, and this is beyond the control of your ISP.
A friend of mine who lives in the sticks had broadband enabled but couldn't get a service. After several engineer visits they told him that broadband at his location was impossible due to the close proximity of powerlines!.
The ISP (EFH) wasn't remotely interested in keeping on the pressure to BT and so after several emails direct to BT Wholesale and pure determination he finally got his ancient overhead line replaced, and the result is that he now has perfect broadband!. Half of the time BT Engineers aren't interested and you have to keep up the pressure in order for them to take the problem seriously.0 -
It sounds like a BT line problem. But just to make sure don't forget to reste the modem / router and try again.
Perhaps you can only get a 1MB link in reality - anyhow you are doing better than me as 14 days latter and ADSL still isn't activated!0 -

However I wish I hadn't as I am still waiting for connection and all plusnet do is blame BT and refuse to chase them up - they also refuse to give me a name and number of the BT department they deal with so I can do it myself - I am sure I would not have had this problem with F2S.
Also the portal at Plus net and the webmail is very flakey - 2 years with F2S And I can only remember one downtime for the webmail and I NEVER got disconnected.
I reccommend F2S 100% and am currently thinking of cancelling my outstanding order with PlusNet.
I think PlusNet are probably correct as they would deal with BT Wholesale who are not a consumer facing company. They deal with other companies to provide them with networking services.
I had the same issues with VirginNet. I was supposed to be on their BB the first week in June but due to a line fault it never happened. For various reasons it has taken until now to get an appointment for a BT engineer to come out. When I phoned BT to try to get through to the correct department they said sorry it's a BT Wholesale issue and it's your ISP who needs to contact them. Anyway the engineer is out next week so hopefully should have BB soon.
Incidentally PlusNet were on my shortlist as I had read so many good reviews but didn't go with them as I needed free connection and modem.0 -
hi
Thinking of choosing f2s service provider , at present my line capacity is 1 mb in future my line will be upgraded to 8mb ?
Now if we take the connection from f2s it will come 1 mb , after upgrading the BT line
whether f2s will charge while taking up for 8mb ?
Regards

yes, there is a regrade charge (I think around £15). If you know you will be getting 8M on your line soon, then best to wait until then before migrating to them.0
