Property entered without our permission

I'm with you completely on this. It is your home until the 8th.roaduser3189 said:My concern is that someone entered our property without notice or consent. Irrespective of whether it is currently empty or not , it is still contractually ours until the 8th.
Neither the sales agent who has the key nor the LL knew we moved out the weekend before.1 -
This is the most bizarre thread. The property is the op's home until the 8th. Someone had entered the house without the op's permission.

Or, reworded, the landlord has entered someone else's home without permission. You don't have to 'break' something to enter a house illegally.user1977 said:
But it hasn't been broken into (or any other crime committed), if all that's happened is the landlord has used their set of keys and entered the property.lookstraightahead said:

I have contacted the police and they weren't particularly helpful.
If this was someone's office, and the landlord had gone in without permission opening drawers etc, would that be ok too?
the op hasn't moved out, they are still paying rent. Besides not having permission, it could have been really embarrassing. Just like if anyone goes into anyone else's home, without permission.0 -
I understand that it’s wrong but I’m not really sure what the OP expects beyond an apology. Calling the police is a huge overreaction and a waste of their time.
The OP should contact the EA, explain the property is still there’s and not to enter without permission. Problem (hopefully) resolved.7 -
Who said it was "ok"? It's not a criminal offence though (even if unlawful in terms of landlord and tenant law), so nothing to do with the police.lookstraightahead said:

Why isn't it a criminal offence? (serious question).user1977 said:

Shelter has information on your rights and how you can assert them

If someone entered using a key they have not broken in. If they had smashed the door in the police may have been a bit more interested.lookstraightahead said:

It could be considered harrasment but realistically it wont get beyond telling the agent and landlord to stay out until the tenancy has ended.

I have contacted the police and they weren't particularly helpful. So if I leave my car door unlocked it's ok for someone to sit in it, go through the contents of the boot and the glove compartment?Or if I leave my back door open and someone comes in in the middle of the night while I'm asleep, uses the loo, rearranges the furniture, it's not an offence?
the op hasn't "moved out" until 8 December.I'm honestly intrigued. It appears that if you rent, it's ok for people to come into your house without your permission.
is it ok for anyone with access to a key to my home to come in at any time, or their mates?1
