Mandatory day 2 pcr - since when?

Can anyone point me to the most accurate information on this. I have read in one article that you can test BEFORE day 2 ie upon arrival which is classed as day 0 or as another article states it has to be ON day 2. If say you can get your results within 24 hours as I have done in the past, this could mean as little as 24 hrs isolation or at worst 95 or so hours (land early hours Day 0, take test 2 days later Days 1&2 and 24 hr wait for results).0

Some places you can get a result same day, look around.0

Yes I am aware of that, but my question relates to when test can be taken as Ive seen 2 different articles. I suppose we can only wait until the government website is updated.0

I suspect its no different to the laterals and you can do it anytime up to Day 2, even on the day you land0

Gov say here on day 2 or before day 2.When you arrive in England – fully vaccinated
After you arrive in England you must take a COVID-19 test on or before day 2. The day you arrive is day 0
I have taken my test on day 0 and posted the same day. With no issues.

I travelled from Spain on Thursday morning and took a lateral flow test later that day as allowed.
Obviously since then the recent announcement has stated this will be changing and a PCR test is now required. The government website hasn’t been updated and I think it only comes in after 4am tomorrow.
The Mail on Sunday states “All arrivals to UK after 4am on Tuesday must take a PCR test, rather than a lateral flow, by day two and isolate at home until they get the result”. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10250975/Sajid-Javid-says-Christmas-great-despite-Omicron-strain.html however another article states “Travellers to the UK will now have to take a PCR test on day two and self-isolate until they receive a negative result in a bid to stem the spread of the Omicron variant, it has been announced” https://inews.co.uk/news/health/omicron-variant-travellers-to-the-uk-must-take-day-2-pcr-test-and-self-isolate-until-they-get-negative-result-1323303
I have used these 2 articles as an example of the confusion.
May just have to wait and see what the government website says once it has been updated.

From the gov.uk website :
Tests to take after you arrive in the UK
After you arrive in the UK, you will need to take a PCR test on or before day 2. You need to book the test before you travel, so you can enter the test reference in your passenger locator form.

Thanks onashoestring for the link. The government website is yet to be updated as the last update was on 25th November before the latest announcement. It was always before day 2. Im interested as it may be that the government will change this to On day 2 to allow the virus to be detected after travelling as it may not show up if the test is taken immediately upon arrival.0

KLM had two flights back to Amsterdam from SA whose passengers were not allowed off the planes for over 4 hours whilst testing arrangements were set up. All had supposedly had negative tests in SA before boarding, 61 tested positive on arrival...Switzerland is reported to be considering compulsory 10-day quarantine for all arrivals from all destinations. If this is correct, it is effectively closing the borders, although, with most arrivals by rail or road, it is going to be much harder to enforce if this rumour is correct.0
