I need to know what the situation is for travellers that have recently recovered from Covid as I am due to travel in 10 days time.

I came out of isolation 5 days ago and was advised by NHS tracing not to take another PCR test for 90 days as it would most likely provide a positive result due to elements of the virus still being present.

It should become clearer on Monday. However, you will also need to keep checking the restrictions in place at your destination as many other countries are also changing their rules.

Yes, things are changing rapidly around the world. KLM had two flights back to Amsterdam from SA whose passengers were not allowed off the planes for over 4 hours whilst testing arrangements were set up. All had supposedly had negative tests in SA before boarding, 61 tested positive on arrival...Switzerland is reported to be considering compulsory 10-day quarantine for all arrivals from all destinations. If this is correct, it is effectively closing the borders, although, with most arrivals by rail or road, it is going to be much harder to enforce if this rumour is correct.

So frustrating they keep changing the rules with little information. So currently I fly back Thursday and have to be at an event Friday. I take it I now need to quarantine Friday unless I manage to get one of those 4hr PCR?

Probably wait to see the exact wording of any new rules - but if the rumours are correct and this comes into effect in the next few days then yes. You will need to find an on site testing facility suitable for any new requirements where you can get an immediate result to be released from quarantine.Assuming of course that you can leave quarantine to go and be tested.

I've got a couple of friends in the same situation, booked a quick trip away expecting to be back at work the next day - but now possibly faced with either having to get an extra day off (they land Sunday afternoon and expected to be at work Monday morning) or cancel their short break. Hopefully the new rules will be published quickly so people can make what adjustments they need to .

At Which airport do you arrive back ? Many have onsite testing- you can book ahead to take a test immediately when you arrive , that will be the quickest way to get a result back and end your quarantine. ( won’t be the cheapest option, but if you need to be at the event that may be the best option for your circumstances)

Arrive back at stansted but can’t see any testing site there. Looks like it comes into effect Tuesday. I also can’t find any 4hr PCR test unless you live in central London!

It's a mess isn't it. Is everyone who arrives at an airport supposed to stay there until they get the result?

In the case of those Dutch flights where there were loads of positive tests, are those people held somewhere? Presume the negative ones are left to go on their way, even though they've been stuck on a plane for hours with the ones who tested positive.

Surely this has to be allowed. I land back in the country at 9pm on December 22nd. There is absolutely zero chance I am prepared to put something in the British postal system on the morning of the 23rd December and expect a result back quickly, especially with 4 "bank holidays" almost immediately afterwards.

In any case I expect any enforcement to be nil and is solely relying on goodwill, especially at that time of year.

People that are travelling should know the potential risks by now.  Likewise factor it into personal decisions.
