I had to explain to someone at work what a red lentil was, and tried really hard to explain pearl barley, but she had no reference points at all as to what it was or might have ever had it in. So she is none the wiser. I am continually baffled at the amount of stuff some people have never eaten by the age of 30.Conversely, every single person seems to have tried The Delight of Angel's that comes in a packet and looks suspicious.4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!

A brilliant day today. Woke DS1 up for his last shift at work this year, then headed to town to see a friend. Don't think we've met up for more than 5 mins since before the October holidays. She's a headteacher in a different school from me. We walked 3 miles, then I taught he to crochet a granny square, whilst we chatted. Time just flew by, so it was 4pm by the time I picked mum up to go shopping! Had a lovely time with her too, got a few bargains, but nothing ys. Chickens seemed to have been very popular or in short supply - typical when I was looking to get one!
Grateful for a lovely day, my bucket now being full & my new shampoo & conditioning barsUse it up, wear it out

Lovely day today as my friend came over and we chatted and made needle felted gnomes. I cooked a simple veg lunch that she likes and it was lovely to catch up on news. We'd both done tests beforehand so hopefully all ok.
Unfortunately my niece is still very poorly with covid, her toddler may have it and now my sister has it. Her test was clear in the morning then this afternoon she felt dreadful and tested positive. Unbelievable.
Still eating leftovers and things bought in for Christmas. Trying to use up fresh stuff and save tinned and frozen things for later on. Ended up with far too many chocolates and sweets to eat up. They are asking for charity bingo prizes in the village so maybe some can go there.
No NSD today but small spend if £1.49 for cream to go on the Apple and plum crumble.
Gratitudes today: A lovely day with my friend, a bit of crafting and a brighter afternoon.
Thanks to everyone on here for what you've set up or posted in December. I've loved following everyone's journeys this month. X

Okay, very strange day yesterday. Went to mum's. Mummy of twins was already there and had been frightened because the curtains were drawn and mum was still in bed in the afternoon (mum went to open the door for her but had to hold onto things to get there).
Mummy of twins was worried that she was severely dehydrated (I thought her colour was slightly better but she didn't move from the chair whilst we were there) so we spent most of the afternoon on hold with 111 (went through 3 different levels). Finally we were directed to GP alliance for an appointment, but they had been fully booked since 8.30 am. They gave us the option of calling 999 or taking her to A & E (8 miles away) ourselves. Mum said she couldn't walk to the car so we called an ambulance.
Person on the phone and the ambulance crew were all wonderful. They did lots of checks and put her on oxygen as her levels had dropped. They asked about her going to hospital and she agreed. I wasn't allowed to go but they gave me the switchboard number and told me to call in about 3 hours. At 8 pm she was still waiting to see the doctor but was in a side room (no immune system) and having IV fluids and oxygen.
Phoned 4 times between 10 pm and 11.30 pm but my phone kept cutting out whilst on hold (15 minutes the last time) - very lively night in A & E. Awake now so just phoned (topped up my phone first, charged yesterday evening) and she's seen the A & E doctor but waiting to see the medical doctor. She's sleeping and I think they will be keeping her for a day or two. Nurse told me to try and get some sleep.
I'm okay, mum is in the best possible place but life is in limbo again (may have to move back in again for a few days so moving stuff is on hold) and will discuss a possible care package later (I'm not in favour but willing to listen and see what is on offer). Going to read and try to nod off again for a while (have already updated DS1, DS2, my elder niece and mummy of twins (last night, she's going to call me this morning).
Grateful for mummy of twins being with me (we could take it in turns going to the toilet etc whilst the other phone minded), DS3 ordering food for me when I got in (he said my eating habits were disgusting - I just ate my way through it, feeling my blood sugar returning to normal), being able to check my bank balance (and DS3 topping it up - I am officially broke again).

Sorry to hear about your mum, mothernerd. Don't be too hasty re a care package - it might help you get back to a more normal Life, too x
Quiet day planned here. DD is wfh until 4pm. DH might look at his work emails and I might sort through a pile of work paperwork I brought home for the holidays. DS2 and DS3 still have some revision/ homework to do. I also need to finish boxing up some books for Z1ff1t selling site - only about £20 sold in total across 2 sites but every bit helps and the unwanted ones can go to the CS on Monday. Also gets rid of some of my 'useful' strong cardboard boxes and stash of packing paper kept from online orders
Not sure what we are eating yet tonight. There is some leftover open bottles from Xmas day we will finish off (equates to a couple of glasses each for the adults) - which will be plenty, as none of us are big drinkers (in fact Xmas day and NYE are usually the only times I drink alcohol, unless its something like a wedding/ big birthday celebration) Some silly games and then bed about 5 past midnight, I think!

Morning!Ooof! mothernerd. Good job you were there for as long as you were. Take this little break to rest and get stronger.I have 2 boxes of 'beige' to stick on a baking tray tonight as 10pm snacks (very cheap Indian finger food), plenty of tropical fruit for a salad this afternoon, cream for whipping and marshmallows for topping hot chocolate to have with board games tonight. So feeling quite organised ( I have a list and everything).And.... (wait for it, wait for it...............) I got paid! My first and last paycheque for 2021
Which is lovely! It was made of money. Very welcome and worth the wait.
Enjoy the last day of the 2021, andfor all the support you give.
