JB you have made me laugh.
As you know I am.elderly so anything new and different would make it difficult for me.  So very good advice and I appreciate it.
As said I am very stressed band tired with what is going on.. refurbishing my home Lots of deliveries and some problems.
I will spend a bit of time and go.over the options.  I.will steer clear of ASUS and I think AZUS
    What I have is HP
On getting used to new things.
My Nephew gives his Mum.everything in Tech. She can only do very basic things email
    photos and email
He gave her a new iPad 3 weeks ago set it up etc.  He is in Seattle and he can spend forever on Facetime helping This is her third iPad.  She has had 4 iPhones 3 Apple watches Echo.smaller screen A larger one for upstairs.
She does not know what she is doing wrong but she says she keeps loosing the email she writes to me every night. She lost her keyboard but he told her what to do online. His partner who knows everything there is to know about Apple products. Spends aged with her. She had the new phone and iPad for ages but she had to wait until.they came in November.  Will be back for Christmas.
I have Alexa one large and 2 pods set then up.  Set up wireless printers Set up new 3 phones and it was easy.  But as you say I am used to Windows.
My Sister had a hospital admissions 4:weeks ago for Atrial  Fibrillation but despite the Apple watch she didn't act on what it was saying.  Her son now has it linked up.so.he can monitor it..I had to tell her to call 111 She's in Scotland and I am.in England
I don't want or need all.this tecnics..I was a Midwife and knee I too had the same problem..Had the echocardiogram and 7 day ECG appt with cardiologist in December.
Thanks to you all for the advice and the recommendations.  I.can.afford to.pay more but basically I just need something that does what my needs are.
    Love you folks

    Why this?

I will steer clear of ASUS

I would avoid Acer and Asus laptops. I've always had a low opinion of Acer laptops (built down to a price) and I've recently repaired a fairly recent Acer E5 laptop; great spec machine on paper but it has the flimsiest panel on it I've ever seen.

I've seen lots of Asus laptops with charging port problems - including my own. It's a common issue. A colleague with one has replaced his several times; requires soldering.

Yes you can charge modern laptops from USB-C, but this has been a problem with them for years.

Dell stopped soldering the charging port onto the motherboard years ago so replacing them, when they are worn out is much easier.

  • Ooh, shiny! I think that's going to be perfect for you.

For anyone else who isn't related to Sue's nephew but is looking for something similar, until I read her last message I was going to suggest a refurbished Lenovo Thinkpad. There are plenty available and they're usually ex business computers originally from companies that upgrade every 18 months or so which means they're usually really good value. Plenty to be found on ebay.

Thank you so much. I got such a shock.   I was on my way out to a Christmas Fair.  I am a WI member.
    I didn't get home until 7.30 pm
There was a note from Nephew.
Says Happy Christmas and I.hope you will enjoy using it. Says I know how much it means to keep on touch.. I am one of six. Brother in California.Brother in Australia
Brother I'm.Wales and 2 sisters in Scotland.. Messenger.and Email every day.
David and I were messaging last night.  He has paid me do many compliments which I don't deserve.  I love him very much and he is enormously generous but I would not have asked him
,for advice if I thought he would do this.

Thank you both for your advice.
I don't feel elderly until I look in the mirror 😂
A day or so ago I mentioned about my Nephew has worked for Microsoft several times for the past 27 or 28 years..He has gone to other companies Amazon and years ago for Nokia BUT Microsoft have always lured him back.time and time again.
He has got 28 patents which Microsoft own.
I have a close relationship with him and on Thursday I asked his advice and told him my budget.
It was Thanksgiving but he said he would have a look at the weekend.
Shocked today to receive a parcel from Amazon and thought I have not ordered anything from Amazon. When I opened it was a laptop. Says Aunt Susan  Christmas gift from us.  We hope you will enjoy using it.
    That's really nice!

I'm either in the wrong job or too stingy. My relatives get reconditioned Dell laptops. Although I did buy my Mum a new one during lockdown as the newer second hand ones were so expensive.

Really hope you enjoy your new laptop. Have a good Christmas!
