Hi @Susan1942,
Any interest in fixing the old laptop?
If the charger socket is the problem, on many models they can easily be replaced. As most likely, can the battery.
A dream is not reality, but who's to say which is which?1 -
Thanks for your response.
It's was actually a gift for my 70th birthday so 10 years old in February. I had been considering a chrome book but I can't write letters print etc Store precious photos so think laptop would be best. Its also Windows 7. I have an old desktop which I never use but it's on a trolley in a cupboard with the printer.
My Son is telling me to buy a MAC.but it's too expensive for me.

Look at their Inspiron range, some are in Black friday sale1 -
A "Which" best buy is the Acer Swift SF114-34 Laptop. £279 from some well known retailers including John Lewis.I'm about to replace my old laptop (Windows 7, very slow and heavy and doesn't hold a charge) I know little about laptops so look for advice from Which and family and will buy the above one.1

Thanks again Sue0 -
Thank you all for the suggestions. I had a quick.look.really at price. I am just very tired .
I had a light bulb moment. My Nephew has worked with Microsoft in Seattle on and off for over 23 years. Had left gone to Nokia left back.to.Microsoft..Went to Amazon..Always lured back. He has got 28 patents.and has a high position in the company..
I.am.in contact with him regularly in fact just yesterday..
I.have messaged him.and he says he will.have a look at the weekend. It's Thanksgiving today.
My grandson has got a physics degree and a.Masters in Computer Science. He is working.in the Software field. I.had forgotten all.this because I really use ML forum for everything.and value the advice given by members here.
I am.very much feeling my age and need a good.sleep.
I said this week has been stressful. I.had a new carpet delivered.on.Tuesday which.is 3cms too narrow It has been laid buy the store owner is coming to see me tomorrow. I.am.pretty.confident it will.be replaced. Could have done without it. I am.79.widowed and it is not easy to be a woman.on.your own.
I appreciate and respect the advice on this forum.
Grateful.thanks
Sue
