It all got away from me after chipboard.I know the expensive stuff for sure.As long as it;s reasonably hard wearing, it won't get a familly full of knocks, just me preparing food.I get the word cream come up for sites but it turns out to be white at best. Not even beigeThe idea is that this kitchen has decent light oak cupboards that with some complimentary colours would look bright and sunny and country without me having to spend a fortune. I've done the walls, if I do the worktops and floor I can make it look completely different. It's a big kitchen and the worktops themselves are going to be 3 lengths. Just trying to buck it up without spending a fortune. At the moment its the original when built 1999 and a blury mix of blue, pink, brown and grey. It looks like a cats been sick and looks dreadful with brown wood. ...... the floor is the same colourIf you post a photo of what the units look like, good chance folk on here can suggest alternative colours that'll also work.Have you even considered painting the doors? Sky's the limit then.2

Painting would be a very last resort....It would ruin the wood and I'd have to maintain it. I've had too many decades of that and can live with the wood ss it's easy care for when I get my life back.
Photo would be a good idea but I'd have to do a lot of cleaning and tidying first lol and got loads to do today that is more fun. Maybe tonight. I could bring an old photo from purchase.
I guess with everyone painting the doors cream there's no call for the worktops to be such.
By the time I've found someone to install fashion will have changed.

Slinky interesting. That was my only other option but it wouldn't do anything to improve the overall look. Just stop the overall depressing grey/blue/brown.No man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.1 -
The "Dekton" worktops from Cosentino (linked upthread) are similar in price to quartz but aren't susceptible to heat damage or staining. They come in several designs which I would call cream.
We paid about £2100 for them as part of our order from DIY-Kitchens, so it wouldn't have paid for many trips to the Maldives! This was for a fair sized L-shape plus an island and a matching windowsill
ETA: This was the price including fitting.1 -
Yes Rosa, it's all eternally ongoing but with the pandemic, shortages etc I guess it will all come together eventually.
I know the cream will make a happy sunshiny kitchen for minium expenditure.
And I can't tackle much else at the moment.
I've given up on the lavender blue floor for the bathroom and anything other than white tiles so I can compromise lol.

I'll say it again - I think you'd be hard pushed to get a better worktop than Maia for the price. Around £400 to £600 for a 3.6m length of 42mm thick top. Also available in 28mm and 52mm.It looks superb, and will cope with pretty much anything. It won't crack like quartz or any of that silly 'real' stuff eitherI notice some of the suppliers will also do an installation service, depending on where you live, so in theory you should be able to get an all-in price so know exactly what you are getting. Are you sure you want beige? You, ahem, haven't posted a photo yet...1

Thanks Bendy, I've saved the information.Sooo The true gloom doesn't come out as the sun is shining which is one reason I plumped for this place. The cupboards are solid so it's a bit overwhealming, none with a glass front to break the line, I've had to fit in white goods where the sockets are. Looking for the cheapest way to improve it was paint, blinds (ie walls) - worktops - floor - leaving the grey tiles as they are well put in and that would be a major job. Neighbours put tiles over and frankly it looks like it.If you look at the work top and floor and thing grey tiles and mid brown wood you may see what I mean about it being depressing.I laid cream photocopying paper over the worktops because I thought my idea was extreame but it just took on the look of sunshine and country - which is the look my covid house has achieved elsewhere being do what you can during lockdown and shortages.

Fair do's, 2'penny.Your new tops don't strike me as being that much lighter than the old, but you clearly have a vision in your mind. And that's something that I cannot do - I need to 'Google and copy'.Are you any closer to choosing the 'tops to use?Maia will be seamless along that U-shape0

twopenny said:Sadly chocoaholic, the floor is the same cat sick blend of colours.....I wish my carpets were that colour some days!!!We had a similar colour and shape kitchen and unit, but black work tops and racing green tiles. I personally quite liked it, and it wasn't a naturally light property.
May you find your sister soon Helli.

Triple, I've got to say as a colour that doesn't show the dirt it's just great
I'll miss it if I go lighter.
Bendy, there is no new worktop there. It's what I inherited with the house. Brown cupboards, grey and brown tiles, grey, brown, pink and blue worktops and floor. May have been state of the art when built but I doubt it.The cream worktops and walls will reflect the light and lighten the cupboard wood to an acceptable level.Ditto a lighter floor and change the feel.My only other option is taking it out and starting again which would be eyewatering even if it looked more currently acceptable in the end.Believe me in this small bungalow everything is panelled!I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
