Thank you, I'm hoping that I can qualify for this. It didn't allow me to apply online, says I have to call them, which I will do 1st thing tomorrow morning. Thank you all so much for your invaluable advice. This weekend has been really hard and I'm trying to stay strong for my little boy, it alone time is when the darkest thoughts creep in1

It’s extremely unlikely that they will do that, though - please don’t let them terrify you into believing otherwise.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Prison is only likely for people who both refuse to pay anything and refuse all communication and only when all other avenues have been explored. That you are communicating means you should not be going down this path. Debt collectors 'probably aren't lying' but will allow you to misinterpretate the worst case (or nuclear option) as the standard outcome if you don't pay.I have read that if you have your budget prepared showing what you can and cannot afford, judges can be far more understanding than you think and if they agree with your figures will tell the collection agencies thus, so don't let that option frighten you either. Please do look at putting a budget together and come to this board for help as a priority whilst waiting to make calls.May you find your sister soon Helli.

I have spoken to step change this morning and they have advised for me to call the fines officer again to explain the situation, if they refuse to intervene for a 2nd time, to request a review in front of the magistrates. This makes me panic stricken and that's when the dark thoughts steam into my brain BUT I have spoken to the gp and been put on higher anxiety medication. They have said they will do a budget sheet for me, that having it done in advance looks better in court. I did contact my Mp and had correspondence this morning saying he can't help. I'm going to try and be strong, it's all I can do. Stepchange also said its wrong that I've never had a breakdown of the fine from cder and its unusual to lump things into 1 account as they make their money putting it into seperate ones, so said something doesn't sound right. I know I have the court fine and TV license. He went through my income and said it is disgusting that they are demanding more than I have coming in. I know I should be feeling better about things, but my mindset isn't letting me right now, I'm going to try though4

You can only feel how you feel - the anxiety is understandable but do try to take a step away from it and remind yourself that you are catastrophising, to a degree, around the “what is the worst that can happen” aspect. I PROMISE you that we’re being truthful about the likelihood of them trying to send you to prison - yes it can happen, but as said previously, in a situation where the debtor is both maintaining correspondence and making efforts to pay *something*, it is quite literally incredibly unlikely that any court would follow that route.Make sure you are paying something regularly - but as said, just a token amount. I’m appalled that your MP is saying they won’t help - because it IS “won’t “ not “can’t” - part of their role is helping vulnerable constituents who are being bullied or treated unfairly. I’m pleased you’re getting support from Stepchange too - we point people to them so often for good reason! And yes, on the subject of support, absolutely continue posting here if that helps - we can’t do much, but we can listen, and hopefully reassure you at least a bit around some of your fears.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡
