    Thanks all.

After trying and failing to switch to the £175 offer and messing about with support for an hour - why do they make it so hard??? I have successfully done a switch to a £150 offer. I should get paid in Nov. That does mean that I lose one of my Reg Savers - but I earn more from the switch. I am going to have to ring up I think and ask them to close the reg saver and move the money into the main account before the switch so I retain access to it. I will then move the money to my 5% savings account anyway once I've met the monthly pay in threshold.

Hope you are all having a good start to your week.

  • I'm waiting to see if my £175 bank switch goes through OK - I suspect I might end up losing it through as there is meant to be some stuff sent through in the post some of which has arrived but the rest hasn't - and I get the feeling I'm not going to be able to get the access to the online banking in time to not have them decide I no longer want to go ahead. Annoying as it was a super-simple switch of a spare account for a decent return, and one of the rare ones that doesn't have any arduous hoops to jump through to get the switch bonus too! We'll see!

Good thinking on working out that it was worth losing out on the Reg Saver to get the bonus for the switch.

  • Well done on your life and your list ;)
I am not sure I can be bothered to go through a bank switch as concerned my credit score may be affected when it comes to mortgage applications..
    DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff.    Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

As far as I'm aware, the only part that any mortgage company might be interested in is if you get overdrafts with half a dozen new bank accounts, because it effectively increases your credit (and even then it might not be a dealbreaker). I have about half a dozen current accounts and it was never flagged as an issue by any potential mortgages.

"Credit score" is an American thing that doesn't really translate over here and each lender has their own criteria.
