It was @EssexHebridean who recently visited. I came back on Tuesday, having had an 'unexpected' helicopter flight on the previous Saturday. Can't beat the place (other than the multiple 350' climbs down to/up from sea level)!jwil sai

That will have been me - and yes, not too bad a crossing this time, although I’m fairly resistant to sea sickness anyway, MrEH sometimes suffers though but he was ok this time too. 🙂jwil said:

Unexpected indeed - what a bonus! 😁 We actually did more “up and down” this time than usual as we went down to South Light one day, as we were meeting someone off the Tuesday boat, then another day was a super-low tide so a lot of our group did Rat Island - and others opted for a poke around on the beach below the usual low tide line. Some of the group also went down for the Quarry Beach letterbox one day as well. Oh and MrEH and I went down to the Battery too - a favourite spot! It’s been known that we’ve not ventured down between arrival and departure on occasion though! 😂JGB1955 said:

Thanks @boxofpaws I was happy as I wrote about 2000 words while I was away - so cracked my 'dry' spell of not (fiction) writing. I have a rough outline of my plot that I'm working to. It's around the half way point at the moment. I wish it did all just come to me. The benefit of having been a long time between writing the sections is I could see a couple of chapters that had the wrong setting - and where I needed to build in more conflict. I think I am also getting better at building in the character's journey of 'resisting' the initial call to action in a way that feels more organic.boxofpaws said:I’m glad you had a lovely break. And that’s a brilliant gratitude list, so much to be glad about. How is the book coming along then? How do you do it? Do you have an idea for plot and then fill it out as you go along? Or does it all just come to you?
I am currently editing the early chapters rather than writing completely new - but I write some of the story - and then write a comment like 'go back and add more setting,' or 'rewrite this - show don't tell' or 'what were they wearing etc'. That then makes it easier the next time I go through it. I write a rough couple of sentences (or more) for the future chapters so I have an idea of where I was originally planning to go when I get there. When I got half way (a year ago) I realised I wanted to go back and add stuff in at the beginning to make the reader care more about a couple of characters. So writing isn't necessarily linear - for me anyway. I also end up writing a lot more words than eventually get kept in - hence why I am at 41K of 70K words but am still only describing myself as half way through.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

@EssexHebridean - you do make me want to visit - although it sounds like I would need to be a lot fitter to get the most out of the experience. Your photos are always stunning.
@Alchemilla the Lakes were gorgeous. It's nice being back home too though. I did some pouring type painting with a new friend last night and it went well so that is positive. One of the nicest bank holidays I've had in a while.
I am planning to make more art today too. I am also visiting my sis one day this week. I have a week planned of art, writing, seeing people and the decluttering / organising thrown in the mix in between. I also have a counselling appointment.

Lundy can be done at pretty much any level of fitness. We had two people with us neither of whom are at all mobile these days - they can walk short distances only, and struggle on uneven ground. We also had a couple of others who for various reasons don't have a high level of fitness at the moment - they thoroughly enjoyed their week and didn't feel they were being limited by their fitness, I don't think. The Island has two "tramper" scooters which are idea for managing the rough ground for those less mobile - they can be hired on a "first come first served" basis for visitors. While most of us walk up from the boat to the village, the Landrover is always on hand to ferry those with mobility issues - you do have to wait until the majority of the "walkers" are up though so we'll always make it to the pub first!
Once you're up the top of the island it's possible to explore without much beyond gentle slopes. 🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

The book sounds as if it is coming along and glad you are back into it.
The week you have planned sounds good.If you have built castles in the air, your work should not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them

Glad you are back. Yes I jumped boards last November after my divorce. Really happy to be DF - and hopefully MF will follow in due course.
Thanks EH - I think your journey to get there and back sounds pretty interesting too! I think going as a group like you did sounds fun. I don't think I'd want to go on my own - although it sounds like the kind of place my DS would get a buzz out of going to.
Waves @doingitanyway Written / Edited some more of my book - building more conflict / interest earlier in the book to hopefully hook the readers... I've made some more art too - will see how it comes out when it's dry. So ideal day. I need a shower to get the paint off though - it gets quite tricky due to the latex style additive cue lots of scrubbing! I have my cleaner coming tomorrow but given the kitchen is kind of a little off limits - I'm wondering about working with her to decide on some decluttering. It might help me break the cycle. Then again I now want to run away just at the thought of doing it
Will let you know which option wins...
