New tv sound problem

It’s an LG and I got it yesterday. My old TV was a smaller LG and I thought this would be similar but the sound is awful, especially voices. It’s hard to describe but it’s like the voices echo and have a ‘tinny’ sound which really vibrates in my ears. A bit muffled too, as if the speakers are stuffed with tissue. I’ve got it on ‘clear voice’ like my old TV but on this one, it doesn’t seem to make the voices clearer. In fact, any music or background noise really dominates. I’ve played about with the settings which helped a bit but it’s still not great. I did a sound check which said everything was fine, although all it did was play some music and ask if I could hear it.
Are there any particular settings that could help with this? Is there any way to know if this is faulty or if it’s just the way it’s meant to be? I’m surprised because the old TV was much smaller and thinner, and was the cheapest I could find at the time (10yrs ago) but it has far better sound quality.

You probably need a sound bar.

Hi @ripplyuk. The usual advice as a starting point is to turn off every digital 'enhancement' such as clear voice, spatial, 3D, wide soundstage, anything like that. If there is a 'graphic equilization' then set it to flat. If there is bass and treble, then set them both to 50%. You might well find that solves the problem in itself.1

@coffeehound I turned off clear voice. It’s just on standard now but still echo-y. There doesn’t seem to be many options. When I go into ‘additional settings’ it has a list of MPEG, Dolby digital, Dolby digital plus, HE-AAC, and Auto. I have no idea what any of those mean. Is one better than the other? I’m trying to play about with it but it’s difficult because each channel/app seems to sound different so it might be ok on one but awful on another. There’s no options for bass/treble and I can’t find graphic equalisation either.0

TVs only have to do two things, make pretty pictures and pleasant sounds. It seems that even that is beyond most of them.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.2

After switching everything about enhancements to off etc. as above consider how it is mounted and positioned.I too have an LG. The speakers are not forward facing so the surface it is mounted on has a significant affect on the sound. Mine is wall mounted above a wooden unit so that reflects the sound vrom the speakers better. If in a corner the bass gets enhanced and makes it sound a bit wooly so it is not hard into the corner -best it not near a corner.Graphic equalizer (on mine from home screen/settings/sound and further menu options) set to reduce bass in range 100Hz to about 600Hz and treble boosted from 3kHz upwards helps to make the sound bakanced and clearer.Set just to basic stereo without any other enhancements. When you set such as this start with a music programme and a voice programme such as BBC radio 2 Then 4 for the best compromise. i.e. known decent consistent transmissions. Better still with radio 3 if that floats your boat. Some other channels enhance sound (such as classic fm or 'pop' channels) and these are best avoided to set your tv for best reproduction. Similarly some tv progs can be very bad so best not used for setup - often sound quality is variable or adjusted for dramatic effect and music and adverts much louder than the remainder of programme. It is a fact of life that the jodern flat screen thin tvs suffer from poorer sound. The sound bar might help in that respect, at extra cost, but best rule out other things first. Good voice reproduction for intelligibility without sounding boomy/wooly is quite a test of sound as music can be more forgiving, surprisingly !2

What model LG TV is it?
We bought a new 55 inch LG LG-OLED55C14LB a few months ago and the sound is excellent, far better than the ten year old 43 inch Panasonic that it replaced.
There are lots of different sound settings but we find standard to be the best.A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".0
