Short of space for Whatsapp

Hi, hope someone can help.
I have an old Samsung phone which I am reluctant to change because I don't like big phones.
My Whatsapp stopped working as it told me it needs to update.
The problems is, the phone is very short of available space and it doesn't have room to update.
I uninstalled the old version of Whatsapp but it still says that there is not enough room and tells me to delete my photos.
Almost all of my photos are on my SD card, so deleting those will not gain anything.
Is there a way of putting Whatsapp on the SD card as there is a lot of room on there?
Or can anyone suggest another way of getting round it?
Thanks

There's loads of Google stuff that I don't want and have never used but I can't seem to get rid of.Thanks for your reply though

I think your issue is that apps these days are huge and old phones, well, dont have much memory at all.
Usually you can uninstall apps by pressing down on the icon, this brings up a menu where you can uninstall it - no option here for the Google apps?1 -
Thank you, I have been able to do that on a few which has nearly doubled the available space. I will try to get rid of some more when I get back from work.Thank you very much for your help. I wish I had known that before I got rid of Whatsapp, I wouldn't have lost the messages off it then, I could have just updated it!!0

How did you get rid of Whatsapp the first time, surely you did it the same way I just explained?
Or did you do it via the Google Play store?2 -
It came up that it needed to be updated. I t wouldn't let me even read anything until I had. It flashed on , then went straight off.I ended up having to click on download update. It came up that there was no room and to delete my photos file but nearly all my photos are on my SD card so that wouldn't give enough space either, it gave me the option to uninstall so I did that.0

Clear the cache on whatsapp, helped someone clear some space recently because their phone would not update.
Whatsapp and Facebook combined was using 6.3GB of space... They send and receive a lot of images which stored
on the device not on the external storage.

How can I get it to store on my SD card please? There is a lot of space on there.
