My aunt and uncle swear by their Doro Phones. They like the large buttons, large, clear, simple screen and it does all they want it to do - simply to make phone calls. Like yourselves, when they've lost each other in a shop is when they use them the most.0

I’m on the O2 pay as you go tariff, which is 3p a minute for calls. I spend around £10 a year topping it up. If your wife rarely uses her phone, there’s no point having a monthly contract.
There’s 1pMobile, which charges only 1p a minute for calls. They get good reviews. I really need to move over, once I’ve exhausted my O2 credit.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

Giffgaff will give you a SIM for an initial £10 (I think) top up. No need to take out a monthly plan (goody bag) - simply send one text or make one call every few months (check to see what the limit is) to keep the SIM/phone number alive. The credit never expires (until it is used up) as long as you keep the SIM alive.Jenni x1

GiffGaff seem to have an almost fanatical following. I'm not sure quite why.

TBH I've always had a "plan" (goodybag) so have never needed to consider the "pay as you go" prices. My sister works overseas and has a GG SIM, and sends me a text every few months just to keep her UK number active.Jenni x1

To be fair, I think that all the GiffGaff fans must have monthly plans, which look like reasonable value.
What annoyed me about them was that they kept pushing the price of PAYG calls up, but they didn't tell me. So, I only discovered the price had shot up when I found that my credit wasn't lasting very long. Well, at 25 p a minute, it wouldn't last at all long, would it?
