I had an appointment for my flu jab and when I went I was offered my booster. That was 10 days early but the nurse said it would be okay.

In Scotland? Scotland has been working based on 24 weeks and has just reduced it in certain circumstances to 22. Thats a hard rule though - shouldn't do it even one day less than 22 weeks.

We may be an anomaly, but we are happy to give boosters to anyone that has an appointment and is 170+ days. If you’ve made an appointment, shlepped out in the cold weather, arranged your transport etc, we aren’t going to turn you away for the sake of a few days. We are very conscious that those eligible for boosters at the moment are likely to either be elderly, have health conditions or working in busy sectors. The last thing we want is people being sent away having made appointments and then not bothering or delaying coming back a second time.
That is exactly the experience I had. Went online once the over 50's were allowed to book and booked one for the Sunday just gone (14th Nov). Turns out that it was between 170-180 days since my last one and consequently when I booked in there was a 'flashing icon' or something on my record (her words - I didn't actually see it) which we eventually worked out was because I was earlier than 180 days. No-one was bothered and as she said, if she turns me away then I might not come back again. I 'assumed' (erroneously as it turns out) that the system wouldn't let you book one earlier than 180 days but you can - and it's clearly not an issue.

The whole process was smooth again. I arrived the same time as a 'walk in' person and there was no queue so I needn't have bothered booking, but I guess at least by booking they have some idea of the workload. Had the Pfizer which made me feel dreadful for a day, but fine after that.

I rang the vaccination centre at Elland Road, Leeds today to book an appointment for a third jab. They said you don't need an appointment, just walk in.

    Very efficient service. No queue.

I didn't get anywhere. Now over 6 months.

    No invitation to book.

NHS website won't allow me to book.

Local service just used the NHS website and said they couldn't give me an appointment either
Told it was due to my age despite qualifying on other grounds.

I pressed my eligibility and it was suggested I get a GP letter and try a walk in clinic.
GP surgery very clear no vaccine enquiries.

Things have obviously changed from a few weeks ago when a friend in identical circumstances was given an appointment by the local service.

I live in a enhanced measures area too, that obviously doesn't count for anything.

There are few walk in clinics locally and I don't drive, I'm not willing to go without an appointment or guarantee of a vaccine.

At 34 if they do go down the age groups for boosters mine should be next so I'll just wait and see.

Maybe I will try 119 but if that's the NHS & local attitude I can't see them saying different.

I'm not 100% certain but if you call 119 rather than using the website, and it's been 182 days since your second, they should be able to book you in.  Having called them a couple of times myself, I had a different experience when I gave my NHS number rather than just name & DOB - but that might just depend on who answers your call.
The other alternative is to call your GP surgery.  Mine is very clear on the recorded message before the call get answered, that they don't want calls relating to covid vaccines, but there's a reason that people with certain underlying conditions are in earlier vaccinations groups and if you aren't able to book an appointment for a covid vaccine when you should be, they should help you.

ETA - Just read your earlier posts on this thread. I'm a bit older than you but under 50 and in group 6.  You've had the same experience I had.  Flipping frustrating isn't it... My second vaccine was on May 25th and I was able to book online on Sunday 21st Nov which was 180 days later.  However I'd rung my surgery a few days earlier and have since been called by the same surgery (not mine) who gave me my 1st & 2nd doses so I'm having my 3rd tomorrow, at which point I will cancel the original appointment which is in a couple of weeks time.

Yes it is frustrating... The local service I called this morning took my NHS number and date of birth.

I have emailed twice (local NHS board as said) to book my first vaccine and heard nothing!

The ones to turn up at the moment are for 12 to 16 year olds only.
  • I keep looking but there are no appointments available here at all. Occasionally ones come up very far away that I can't get to.

The government urgently needs to add more capacity.
