Yes it smells nice cooking and yes, it tastes nice, but the whole thing melts in the over and you barely have any meat to actually bother with once it comes out. have to agree you dont get much meat off a goose but you get LOADS of goose fat so make sure you keep draining it off and saving it. you can then freeze it and you will have made your money back in that alone for roasties all year
Milky_mocha i always take the number of serving numbers with a pinch of salt as it aways seems unlikely to me but perhaps it depends on the amount of meat you eat!!

Just thought I'd come back to say it went really well and the goose tasted divine. Like a cross between duck and chicken. Shykins, yes there was about a litre of goose fat drained but I think that's why the meat in the end was not fatty, or at least it didn't taste or look fatty once cooked. One thing I noticed about the drained fat is that it didn't coagulate. Does that mean it's healthier fat? I'd like to think so. As for the quantity, I made a side dish starter so I think that helped to fill everyone up but without that, it would've been just about enough for eight people. Only just. And that includes 4 young children. It wouldn't have been enough for 8 hungry adults I don't think. Thanks everyone.
To AskAsk, I've never seen goose sold in parts but it's an interesting thought.
SavvySue - I didn't know Costco sold duck legs. I'll definitely get some for new year's eve.

Glad you enjoyed it0

I don't know if the goose fat is healthier, but I had a jar of it recently. It solidified in the fridge, but liquefied almost immediately at room temperature, then solidified when it went back in the fridge. It said on the jar that this would happen.Signature removed for peace of mind0

yes thats right about the goose fat looking more liquid when out the fridge. it is higher in mono unsaturated fats so which makes it more heart healthy than some other meat fats
i freeze any extra i have and it usually lasts all year as you dont need a lot for your roasties etc
as i said before i rarely believe the amount they say dishes serve particularly with meat and goose, like duck, doesnt render a lot of meat for the size of the bird. glad you enjoyed it, if you want more now is a good time to get them as they are very hard to get hold of for most of the year

I love goose. We're having goose for our Christmas dinner this year. It works well for us (just the two of us plus cat) as it's quite true- geese look enormous but they're big boned and fatty and there's surprisingly little meat on a goose. Much rather wrestle with a goose than a Brontosaurus (turkey
). Flavour is to die for too and as has been said, all that wonderful fat for roasties, etc. Potted goose is nice too if you have left overs.
