I'm hoping the systems will be back up and running soon. I really feel for those who have been left unable to complete.I am concerned about the knock on effect this is going to have on cases moving forward.1

I missed a call from a private number which was my solicitor trying to get hold of me. They said they would call back but they haven't. I'm definitely not as urgent as other people though. There is an online form you can fill in to hopefully get a call back.0 -
Just a quick update: PPL transferred my parents' money onwards late Wednesday afternoon so they finally managed to complete on their purchase and they moved in yesterday. As you can imagine, they are very relieved that their worst fears (ie. their money going missing and them being left homeless) didn't materialise....logically they know that the chances of that happening were absolutely miniscule, but when you're caught up in the middle of such a stressful situation with no idea what's going on its pretty understandable that people start to fear the worst.
There is still the question of the extra expenses to sort out, but this can wait until PPL's systems are all back online and they've caught up with their work. At the moment my parents are just concentrating on getting settled into the new house and making plans for what needs doing to it.10 -
That's great to hear Vampgirl. I was hoping for completion of a flat I was purchasing in 3 weeks time. As I have possession of the searches, I am moving to a new solicitor with the hope of not letting my seller down and keeping to that timeline.0

I hope your parents have a lovely bottle of wine tonight, think they deserve it.0 -

Are you buying with a mortgage? If so, your solicitor will also be acting for the lender, and will want to check the searches on the lender's behalf.
So check with your proposed new solicitor that they will accept the copy of the searches that you provide (as opposed to receiving them direct from an 'official' source).
There's the risk that the copy you provide might not be genuine, and you're using the fake searches to try to 'fool' (defraud) the mortgage lender into lending on an unsuitable property.

You also don't skip straight to where you currently are in the transaction, simply by handing over the searches.
Unless you're already an existing client, ID will need to be done. Source of funds checked. The title and contact pack reviewed with the Solicitor well within his rights to raise further enquiries and contest current ones if they don't think they're satisfactory.
If anything switching Solicitors puts you right back at the start of the transaction.1 -

Is the new solicitor assuming that they'll ask PPL to send the searches across?
The new solicitor will trust stuff that comes directly from PPL as genuine - solicitors will trust other solicitors not to act fraudulently.
But that would mean waiting for PPL to catch-up with their backlog. And helping a client (you) move to another solicitor might be one of their lowest priorities.
