Bill Gates doesn't have anything to do with Microsoft, and hasn't done since 2008. Jacked it in to go and follow in Andrew Carnegie's footsteps of Philanthropy.

So long as you remain wedded to MS Office, you will need to pay obeisance in some sort to Microsoft. If you can break that tie, there are alternative operating systems (and office applications) available. Clue: they're NOT Windows.Grey_Critic said:I want an operating system just like my wifes phone. I doubt that is true unless it has a really poor spec.prowla said:
Dunno - I can't install it on my PC.Deleted_User said:...
Really can't understand why the above is so difficult?1 -
I've been waiting for the Aero effects to reappear and was on the Beta/Insider program; all was looking good.Sadly though they decided to disallow my PC and VMs, so it's immaterial. The improvement isn't worth me spending several hundred pounds on a new PC.0

Yep, still stuck in my time bubble and refuse to let Microsoft change the look of my desktop. I Still use
Quick Launch on the taskbar not pinned items.
Am I officially an old dinosaur?
I still use Quick Launch too and use StartIsBack to achieve a half-decent Start menu on Windows 10. You can still use Quick Launch on Windows 11, thanks to StartAllBack.

Classis Start Menu and 7+ Taskbar Tweaker.
Useful stuff like scroll wheel volume control and making the show desktop tiny thin band into something wider and more usable.
I also had a day in Powershell removing junk like MyPhone etc....
Just gone to my start menu and spotted PC Health check has installed itself today... Windows really is a VIRUS!!!
Im going to disable updates again if they start this rubbish... Wonder how many people will wake up and find windows

"we" or just you?Grey_Critic said:When I bought a new mobile phone for my wife it was full of junk she did not want and I had to spend time removing/disabling/hiding these things. All she want is to make telephone calls - and not many of those - It has taken her THREE YEARS to use the £20 credit I put on.I want an operating system just like my wifes phone. Not everyone uses phones in the way your wife does or computers like you and many people appreciate all the added extras and you shouldn't judge a product on a niche case when there are better alternatives available for that niche case.
So I'd suggest you have purchased the wrong products rather you than being forced to have apps you don't want. There are plenty of phone models that just do calls and texts - and they are much cheaper as well.
The are other operating systems - Linux for example - in fact so many flavours of Linux there is bound to be one you like - maybe Linux Lite which is designed to be familiar to Windows users but contains just the most basic applications.
I do wonder why people repeatedly buy Windows and then complain about it but never venture into trying all the alternatives to compare it against?

Thanks for the info.
I'll have a look at Classis Start Menu and 7+ Taskbar Tweaker.
Win 7start menu was the best, as far as I'm concerned, though Win10 menu wasn't so bad.
Win11 is the worst, with right click disable , and Toolbars in the Taskbar, Windows has gone back 20 years in navigation.
How did you disable updates?
I didn't know 11 could be installed without permission. My PC asked me if I wanted it.
