Insurance for driver previously disqualified?
Looking for recommendations for a motoring insurance company who will insure a previously disqualified driver (daughter’s partner).
He is 23 and was disqualified just over 2 years ago for accruing points sp30 and tt99 and was banned for 21 days. As it was within 2 years of starting driving he needed to retake test which he is just about to do. However, as you would expect he is finding it difficult to get quotes for insurance (he has turned his life around and is much more responsible now.
Any recommendations for motor insurance companies?
thanks in advance

My lad used them many years ago when he first passed his test - I can't comment on their claims procedure, as he never had to make a claim, but they were way cheaper than most of the others.Presumably you've already asked a Meerkat? Other than that, one broker that does spring to mind is www.adrianflux.co.uk. I've never used them myself, but I've heard good reviews about them - they specialise in "difficult" cases, whether modified cars, very high performance cars, or drivers with a less-than-perfect history. Worth giving them a go.

SP30 is the endorsement code for speeding other than on a motorway and TT99 is the endorsement code for "totting up" to twelve points. This results in a disqualification of a minimum of six months unless the defendant can convince the court that "exceptional hardship" will follow for the driver or others as a result. If the argument is successful the court then has the discretion to reduce the ban or not impose one at all. Did he present such an argument?0 -

£1700 was a good price considering was just trying to gauge whether the company was okay to go with.
I will look at the adrianflux one, thank you0 -

A second thing is has he correctly declared his convictions? As you've presented it he was convicted of speeding, disqualified and also had his licensed revoked. I would expect that quote to increase significantly once he passes his test and can drive unsupervised.0 -
All that shows on his driving record is one Sp30 3 points and the tt90 however yes he had at least 12 to get the tt900

The insurance quote at £1700 is0
-
The insurance quote at £1700 is for him after passing test as an unsupervised driver.0

But, as said, the story does not quite add up. It would be very unusual for an "Exceptional Hardship" argument to result in a ban being reduced from six months to 21 days. Although Magistrates do have the discretion to impose a shorter ban, if the argument is successful it usually results in no ban at all.
Have you asked your daughter's boyfriend what he was told in court when he was disqualified? It is quite important because he has to declare accurately his convictions and the sentences he has had imposed. In addition to the TT99 he should also have at least two, and up to four convictions which led to the "Totting Up".0
