Gatwick Drop Off Charge - Grace Period?

Hi all,

I just got hit with a fine for not paying the £5 fee to drop off at Gatwick (didn't realise I had to, it's a somewhat recent development). I was wondering if this is actually even legal if you have a grace period of 10 minutes? I'm probably misunderstanding grace periods, but thought I'd ask.

Cheers

The £5 fee gives you 10 minutes of parking, so I doubt if they would also offer a 10 minute grace period...
  • But isn't a 10 minute grace period in POFA?
  • Oh, no it isn't, never mind then 😂

    No, sorry, it isn't.

I just looked it up, apparently that's just for after parking ends and only in council car parks in England?

Anywho, luckily I lease so there's a roughly 100% chance they'll forget to send me the requisite documents in P13/14 of POFA.

Oh, no it isn't, never mind then 😂
But that is no reason to be paying this speculative invoice.

Indeed not, I'm planning to use the POFA P13/14 defence if I can't get it cancelled by Gatwick. Not sure what other defence I could use though, maybe signage (given that said signage was genuinely not noticed)

Almost all parking companies have great difficulty making a parking charge stick when a leased/hired car is involved and the driver hasn't been identified.
    Do not identify the driver.

You need to be reading that part of the first post of the NEWBIES thread that covers hired/leased vehicles - in particular, the three template appeals by Edna Basher found towards the bottom of that post.

The new system has been in operation sice March, and you can pay up to midnight the day after, it is enforced by barrier-free anpr and on line payments.
A honeytrap if ever there was one, anyone not used to the new system, or the chaos and confusing signage and road layout at Gatwick is likely to miss the instructions.
Another NCP money skimming scam, no doubt there will be many a holiday maker that gets home after a lovely two weeks in Alicante to a surprise surcharge.

What does this fine letter look like please?  A Parking charge notice from a private firm, sent to the lease co?
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
