Sorry, It was a bit much just did not want to leave anything out.

    Summary

I had a boiler fitted and they fitted the wrong one I contacted them about this and they said it was my fault because I had accepted a quote that was updated from the original but I had not seen this till after the work had been done so I was not aware that the boiler was different. Got a 25kw Bosch installed but should have been a 30kw Bosch. They have offered to refund the difference of £120.

I am sure this company is not going to fix there mistake and wondering what would be the best option for me. Should I take this to small claims?

So I ask again, what do you want as a resolution?

Any reasons why you think a 25kw boiler isn't sufficient for your property?

We would like the installer to replace with original 30kw because I am concerned if I accept the 25kw it will mean that when we install the shower unit later and there is not enough power then we would have to replace it with one that can, that they recommended in the first place so I end out of pocket for their mistake not mine.

I am still awaiting a reply for the information that I provided above but just would like some advance on what would be the best way to deal with this as I am not familar with these situations.

    • What should be the next step if they do not reply?
    • Should I wait a few weeks for a reply before I go back and take it to the next step?

If you're adamant that you want the boiler as requested then you should write a letter before action (LBA) outlining what you want to happen followed by a small claims action if they don't comply.

You didn't say how you paid the final invoice, I'm assuming it wasn't by credit card?

One thing you should be aware regarding their refund, as they seem to imply the refund is based on the difference in cost to them, ie, the trade price. In reality the difference in retail price between the 25kw and 30kw models is likely to be higher.
I paid by debit card in two transactions.

Thanks for the info will keep this in mind if I go down this route.

    Please define "going freezing".

Combi boilers cannot normally fill baths with the tap fully open, however even the 25 kW boiler should be fine for a shower.

If, however, the boiler is cutting out that would indicate a fault, so check for any codes when it happens.
We had a open system before and was converted to a combi system. We have never used a combi system before.

When filling the bath it starts cold then warms up over sometime while filling the bath and then suddenly goes really cold like the cold tap temp. I have to shut the tap off wait then run it again wait for it to warm up again and repeat. I cannot make a hot bath just warm. I cannot burn my self with the water. It does get hot from the sink tap and can fill a washing up bowl for the dishes just not the bath. I was fully opening the tap, this might be the problem.
  • If the water isn't being heated at all whilst the bath tap is open then do check if the burner indicator light has gone out and a fault code is showing on the display.

I have a WB combi and when filling a bath need to carefully adjust the tap to get water that is hot enough.

How big is your house and how many bathrooms do you have?

The 25kW one is recommended for small properties and flats that have limited hot water demands. The 30kW one is for medium sized properties e.g. more than one bathroom.

If the 25kW is not suitable, then no point waiting. Their offer of the commercial price difference is not sufficient if you were to accept a partial refund. It should be the difference in the fitted price. e.g. if you got one of the other companies that quoted to tell you the price of the 25kW one fitted, then take that away from the 30kW quote you had from the same company.

But... if you don't live in a small property then clearly you need the 30kW boiler. Just WRITE to them informing them of their mistake, state the quote clearly states 30 kW, you were not sent any digital paperwork until AFTER the boiler was fitted, all your other quotes were for the 30 kW boiler as this is what you want and need, and that you would like them to install the correct boiler.

3 Bedroom house, Large front room and kitchen, 7 large radiators and 1 bathroom.

I have sent an email pointing this out and no reply yet, how long should I give them to reply.

Na the difference is less than a hundred quid.

They make their money in the fitting, at £3300 for the 30kw boiler the make just over 2k profit, the 25kw would only really  knock a hundred quid off that price.

No reason why the 25Kw wouldn't be perfectly adequate.

I would get the issue with the bath tap checked out though, although running baths can be a bit of an issue with combi boilers the hot water should not suddenly drop to cold in the way you're describing, there's something else going on there. What sort of bath taps do you have? Did the installer fully explain the controls to you, do you know how to adjust the hot water temperature settings, take it in and out of ECO mode etc?

Size of property has no bearing on size of boiler to be specified.  Heating circuits don't require huge boilers.

Hot water flow at the tap is what owners notice.  Combis should therefore be sized to the mains water pressure.  If a medium sized house with a bathroom and two en-suites has a mains pressure of say 9l per minute a 30kw boiler wouldn't be necessary.

I have lived in a two bed one bathroom house with a 31kw boiler as the mains pressure was excellent.

Also check the water temperature indicator in the boiler, apparently the recommended setting is 60 to 65 deg C
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

I was thinking more number of bathrooms and running 2 showers at once rather than radiators... surely if you have 2 showers then the 25kW would not be sufficient?

Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

If you want to run 2 showers simultaneously then even a 30kW combi is probably not going to do it: you'd go for an unvented pressurised tank system instead.
