A nationalised fracking company selling exclusively to the domestic market at cheap rates won't solve anything either - it would be more economical for the government to simply subsidise gas bought on the global market. Not that I think they should, but there are no easy answers.Sea_Shell said:
I've thought this myself about calls to start fracking etc.
Unless this is done by a nationalised company for the use of the UK exclusively, it won't solve anything.
They'll just sell the gas to the highest bidder, like any other private company with a product to sell.

Should Norway stop selling oil and gas to the UK?
) about the Norwegian gas market or suppliers, but it seems Norway is self sufficient in energy so they are just selling a surplus resource, why wouldn't you do that? You look at other fuel rich countries and it feels like they sort themselves out with cheap fuel before flogging the surplus to us (probably a very simplified view I know). 0 -
Norway uses relatively little gas, domestically, because they have enough cheap hydro electricity to meet most of their energy needs.

They even export electricity to us now as well. https://northsealink.com/0

UK Gas Production Could Plunge 75% By 2030
The UK could become much more vulnerable to price shocks and geopolitical events unless new offshore fields are approved and developed—and the UK’s gas production could plummet by 75 percent by 2030, the offshore energy industry body OGUK said on Thursday.
Without new investment in new gas fields in the North Sea, the UK will be left more vulnerable to crisis, such as the current one between Russia and Ukraine, the industry association noted.
