Of course with it changing every quarter perhaps they should quote a typical quarterly spend?!

And that would then just beg the question how do you split say winter heating and summer hot water only heating style costs out.
And many people already struggle with bills - without making things even more complex.
Many people pay scant attention to the detail in their bills - calculations there in - so its a single hook - a regional average of the median costs - in theory - to track a trend.
I tend to ignore it anyways as have no mains gas.
And few used to publish the MR electric (E7 most common) equivalent.
But I can see it has a purpose for those not interested in the detail - as a sort of headline trend number.
But then Ofgem do things like change the TDCV every n years - last one worth c5% at cap level - that blows even the medium term historic comparisons.

just checked the Ofgem site - as other - press sites - were using the 27th date

    From URL
"We review and update the price cap level every three months. The levels for the next periods will be announced by:
    • 27 May 2025 – period 1 July 2025 to 30 September 2025
    • 27 August 2025 – period 1 October 2025 to 31 December 2025
    • 25 November 2025 – period 1 January 2026 to 31 March 2026"

I guess if by means before - it's a bit ambiguous - I could just as easily read it as including in some contexts - does it mean by 00:00 on 27th or 23:59:59 on 27th for instance (with the time specified I'd swap to meaning before - without I'd ask if critical) if will be as suggested above brought forward to Fri 23rd.  Just as I guess I'd happily eat something on the 27th that said "Use by 27..." on the label.

Usually the new price cap is announced early in the working day on the date stated. So I'm expecting it before 0900 on the 23rd - as the 27th is a Bank Holiday.

Octopus sorry for chasing man over £6k wrong bill

A man has accused energy firm Octopus of "relentlessly" pursuing him for almost four years for another person's gas bill of more than £6,000.

Despite repeatedly alerting the firm to the error, Peter Holden, 67, of Hartlebury, Worcestershire, said since August 2021 he was sent monthly energy bills and had been chased by debt collectors.

The firm's pursuit continued despite staff admitting Mr Holden was charged for a meter that shared the same serial number, due to an error in industry data.

Fears 300,000 British electricity meters will not work after tech switch-off

The adverts featuring Lorraine Kelly paint a worrying picture of people left without heating or hot water or, perhaps worse in mid-summer, their radiators on full blast.

Either outcome could be possible when the Radio Teleswitch Service (RTS), which controls an old type of electricity meter found in almost 400,000 homes across Great Britain, is switched off from 30 June.

In the ads, the Scottish TV presenter urges people to contact their supplier, with the tagline adding: “Don’t delay. The RTS switch-off is on the way”.

Although 1,000 of these old meters are being ripped out every day, the daily rate would need to top 5,000 to stand a chance of reaching everyone in time. Campaigners fear that more than 300,000 homes could be left with a meter that does not work.

It's a shame the reporter just parrot what each said (he said he was named on the bill, Octopus said  he wasn't) without bothering to find out the truth.

One of the main things in the article is that they are saying 30th June is in fact only the first area date, and in fact lasts in other areas to September

"Experts said the RTS switch-off would not involve the actual flicking of a switch to cut the signal nationwide. While the advertised date is 30 June, the process will happen by area from 1 July through to 30 September."

Has anyone seen any source for this on Ofgem or industry sites ?
To say what these areas might be and the dates

But Scottish Power seem to cinfirm true -  specifically saying that many of their appointments beyond that June cut off date are still within the specific dates.
