I remember going through airport security screening once after questioning why the alarm sounded was told it activated after a given amount of people went through.

If you do have the app to get pinged, go into settings in the app, then other data and it will show the date of the encounter.
Or did you get a phone call to tell you that you had been in contact with someone? That has nothing to do with any app and is reliant on the person testing positive giving details of contacts to the contact tracing call centre.Android phoneWhere could I find 'exposure notifications'?I *uninstalled* the 'NHS Covid-19' appI still have the standard NHS app which requires log in to see my medical records.I had three emails on Tuesday afternoon/evening from "NHS Test and Trace Service"I replied on Wednesday morning and then got a response saying 'you don't need to isolate - just get a PCR test'I did go to Boots for a flu jab so maybe they instigated the ping? (as I gave them my NS number)0 -
A lot of people at work have told me they were contacted after flights. I think - as someone said - that if one tests, they either contact the whole plane or at least a wide area around the passenger who was seated.Peter

The emails are because someone else tested positive and you were at the same location as you so you are being advised to get tested.
Unlikely it was Boots unless the pharmacist who injected you was the one who tested positive.
Basically a "ping" is a push notification from the app and that just tells you your phone has been near the phone of someone who tested positive, it only tells you that information, no-one else.
A call or email from Test & trace has nothing to do with the app, that is because someone tested positive and told the test & trace service where they have been and who they have seen. People who were also at that location are then contacted.2 -
Thanks bothSorry, by bad - used the wrong word .... not pinged, just emailed. So how did T&T get my email address as opposed to my home address or phone number. When I tested positive back in mid summer, I gave contacts names but not email addresses.🤔0

My wife and I have had two recent trips to Spain by air. On both occasions we have duly completed all forms and tests
Did you not use your email address for these?0 -

Flown somewhere?
Been to a restaurant with a reservation?
All of those things could have involved you giving your email address to receive tickets or reservation details, which would also be used for track and trace.0 -
Does your GP surgery have your email address? Have you registered on your NHS app? Ever reported a lateral flow test result?I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
